I'm curious- as I saw his name mentioned yesterday-- What do you all feel about Dr. Garth Davis, the WLS out of TX; who made the shift in saying meat protein is what's killing us/making us sick (people in general- not just WLS folks), and we are eating it to excess. I know he wrote a book (I didn't read it) and I believe he adopted a vegan lifestyle.
I'll say-- personally-- AMAW won't be on my to-do list because I don't think a diet of pure meat, nothing else is good for you- just like I don't think a diet of all carbs/no carbs is good for you either, and I think a vegetarian diet leaves you seeking to replicate nutrients that can be found in abundance in meats. Considering I think there is a level of truth to what Dr. Davis is saying; but ultimately its a finely tuned balancing act in my humble, totally non-researched, non-scientific opinion.

I think (and I have no science to site to back it up) that there's probably something true about it. I will do AMAW this week, because I think it's fun and a way to reset since I've been craving carbs lately...(think no-sugar added ice cream )...but long term I think we need veggies, for our heart and colon health.

You won't be surprised to hear that I think he's full of crap.
He had an agenda, and cherry picks science to support that agenda, ignoring everything that is contrary. He's actually been censured by the American Medical Association for falsely promoting his ideas.
I'm not saying a pure meat diet is good for us longterm either. But most of the science behind meat being bad just isn't true. It's not cholesterol in foods that give us high cholesterol, it's the inflammation from simple carbs. It's not meat that causes diabetes, it's carbs. If all we ste was meat, Type 2 diabetes wouldn't exist.
In the end, news articles make it seem like the options are eating meat or a healthy diet of greens and veggies. The problem is, no one eats that way. It's the refined foods, simple carbs, that are killing people. Quitting meat won't change that, not a tiny bit.
