Grim, malabsorbing the fat in the beef, or the beef itself?

Early after RNY, we malabsorb some protein, but mostly fat. We immediately start getting more efficient at absorbing both. By about 18 months, we are back to absorbing pretty much all of the protein, and most of the fat. But we malabsorb some fat permanently. How much is not certain.

DSers malabsorb the majority of fats permanently, as well as a large percentage of protein. All surgeries absorb simple carbs just great. That's part of what makes them evil.

by far, for me, the best bang for your buck for protein is shrimp.  Seriously, I keep a bag of frozen, precooked ****tail shrimp in my fridge and I know that it will give me the boost I need if I'm short for the day.

Chicken, (breast-- leg & wing don't have as big of a protein bang- thighs make me wanna hurl)

Turkey - anything turkey seems to be a protein jackpot-- ground, breast, drumstick

Canned tuna (often paired with salad & boiled egg)

Turkey Sausage

Pulled pork

Meatballs (usually has some level of carbs--but I like the convenience factor of meatballs)

dairy (can be high in calories- but cheese is SO worth it!)

I rarely do protein bars/ and shakes for me at this point are like one a month.

Shrimp shrimp and more shrimp

Scallops

Fish

Sometimes steak

I was never a big beef eater (sorry Grim), but feel I need to add it in from time to time. I eat some chicken, but prefer seafood.  It seems to satisfy my pouch the best.

In order of preference:  Yogurt, nuts, animal meats, eggs, tuna, Fairlife milk. (cheese is too binding to make the list).

The first 8 years of RNY I would have a 1-2 spoonful of Wendy's Chili for breakfast.  Just to make sure I got my protein in (beef, cheese [I put in myself], beans).  Now when I go to the coffee shop and don't like the soup of the day, I will get two poached eggs...Add a little salsa, salt and pepper.  I am turning 61 next month...Have medical issues for many years (heart, prostate, blood pressure, sleeping disorders).  So throughout the day I will take meds 8-10 times.  I will take it with milk or yogurt.  So that is my third choice for protein (and calcium that milk has in it).  Just some ideas...Brian
