When you walk into the Bariatric Surgeon's office and you see people there that were in the hospital with you, and they recognize each other and you recognize them, but they don't recognize you at all. The office is on the same floor as general surgery, so some of the people there aren't WLS patients. I sat there smiling listening to them talk about it, and I interrupted and told them I remembered both of them, and it took them a few seconds to realize who I was. We had gone through all of the group NUT sessions and info classes together and they didn't know me.
THEN, the medical assistant called me back to take me to the room and get my vitals. She told me "You don't look like you had surgery." She said normally she can tell that people have lost a lot of weight, but that looking at me, no one would really know that I had ever been heavy.
I shook out my batwings for her, and laughed. But, it really felt good to hear that. I also ran into another girl who was on the floor with me and had surgery the same day that I did. We got to add each other as friends on facebook. It's been a really remarkable day, and my self esteem and ego has had a super boost.
