Your absolutely right it was my nibbles. Now I am tracking everything and making sure I meet both protein and calorie goals. I also eat non-starchy veggies. I try and make sure I am sticking to dark leafy greens.
thank you for your comments

For me it's not just about listening to my body. My brain says I'm hungry a hundred times a day even though my stomach isn't right now. I'm sure at some point my stomach will say I'm hungry. But hunger isn't an emergency. I have to count and track every bite. That's my plan, because that's what I'm seeing long term successful veterans do.

Due to other issues, I have had to add veggies and fruits sooner than most to my diet. A "meat only" will only cause me further issues. I'm at 4 months and my weight loss has slowed down to 2 lbs a week - which was/is what my surgeon and nutritionist predicted and want for me. Of course, I could take all the "meat only" advice on this site personally but that would not be good for me. I had this surgery done to prolong my life, not to create complications. I can live at 200lbs, though I'd LOVE to be under. But will being in "onederland" be worth destroying my colon and living with a colostomy bag before I'm 50? No. So, I eat vegetables or fruit with each meal and limit beef and pork intake. Now, just because I've been told to eat vegetables and fruit doesn't mean I have to be dumb about it... after all, apples and watermelon are both fruit, but one is obviously the healthier choice. Same thing with potatoes vs broccoli.
Remember that when it comes to your health, you should only be taking advice from those who know you and your medical history. This is not a "one size fits all" process.
(FYI - have you discussed leafy greens with your nutritionist? Mine told me that it's like crackers or popcorn - yes, I "can" have some, but those are "slider foods" with no nutritional value, so are to be avoided)

Fruit and veggies aren't th root of all evil. Limited meat is fine ( I throw up from it so I don't eat it really at all). My weight loss is fairly slow but that ok. Things are going on the right direction I drink protein shakes and add protein Almost everyone on here pushes meat so hard Some people never eat at all and are very healthy
Why would it destroy your colon and lwave you with a colostomy bag?

Immediately following surgery, I began bleeding profusely and was admitted to a hospital for 5 additional days, where I received my first ever blood transfusions. It was determined that I have diverticulosis, which is an irregularity in the colon. In order to prevent further damage, and avoid future infections and tears, the diet I need to follow for it optimally is low protein, high fiber. So, the nutritionist spoke with the GI doc and the hepatologist (sp?) and determined that I need to avoid red meat and shellfish/shrimp, no raw fish of any kind and add fruits and vegetables, low carb are fine but avoid berries and fruit skins. As I'm relearning to eat, she wrote out a diet plan for me to follow, that was slightly different than their typical recommendations. Basically, adding one fruit or veg serving 3x a day and limiting meat to softer options like chicken, ground turkey and salmon. They said they would make more adjustments after the colonoscopy. The hope is that I won't have to go full on vegetarian for life, but that depends on the damage they see.
Next week, they will finally be able to do a full colonoscopy and I should get more updates after we see the results of that. I'm taking the day off work the day before - 238g of Miralax mixed with 64 oz of Gatorade plus 2 dulcolax tablets... this could be interesting. I'll be on a liquid diet for the day but I'm planning on reverting back to my pre-op full liquid diet Sunday and Monday too. (procedure scheduled for Wednesday)
Most of the concern seems to be because of my age. They say the damage they've been able to see through CT indicates more severe damage than is typical for someone my age. Same thing with my liver and those results. My medical history is not indicative of the type/severity of damage they are seeing and fear there is an underlying cause, not yet discovered
UPDATED: So, there was some issue with the biopsy slides and they're set to be reviewed by a 3rd pathologist next Tuesday. No notes in the record that say why... just more waiting. No news is good news... right?
