Finally here ready to go.. Surgery 8-19-16- TIPS???
Hi Stacy...so glad you are finally taking this step. As you know, I just had my RNY on 8/15, yesterday. While I was in the hospital the nurses made me start drinking water right away taking my time to sip a 1 ounce cup over about 1/2 hour. I drank as much as I could tolerate and they moved me to Protein shakes by the evening. My nurse had a check sheet for accountability each half hour which I found very helpful. I too had a hernia fixed. I got released to come home this afternoon. The worst part for me so far is the muscle soreness in my abdomen and back. My doctor said to also make sure to stay on top of pain with pain medication. So far, so good and I am glad to be home.
so glad to hear it went well. Did you have laproscopic or open surgery? A tip we were given with laproscopic is that if you get pain between your shoulders to use a heating pad. The gas they expand your skin with for the surgery can move upwards to your shoulders. I am so nervous and excited. Do you have to do the blood thinner injections at home. I am over 50 years old so have to do 14 days of lovenox shots at home.. funny I worry more about that then the pain of surgery lol. Glad your home.. hope to keep up to date with you
Thank you. I had laparoscopic surgery. I do still have some of the pain in my shoulder from the gas expanding especially when I breathe in. It's better than yesterday, so it will get better as the days go on I hope. I didn't use a heating pad, but that would probably be a good idea. I had one blood thinner shot in the hospital but didn't have to bring any of them home. The shot didn't hurt at all, so don't worry about that part :) The surgery made me very nervous, but it will be all worth it to improve our health in the long run! I'm finding that the protein and liquid requirement isn't too bad at all. I wasn't sure how I was going to tolerate it, but it's ok. Being back home last night I was able to get a good night's rest and showered, I felt a lot better.
Good luck on Friday and please post so I know how you're doing!
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!?
