Gallbladder :(

So turns out at my 6 month bloodwork that I have elevated liver enzymes/which has now turned out that my gallbladder is bad. It was also apparently causing the apparent ulcer issues I was having. I did have an ultrasound last year and it was fine. so looks like the RNY caused it to go sludgy which in turn caused the liver enzymes to go up.

My appt is next wed and then I suppose I'm having surgery again. So not happy :(

Editing to say that I knew this was a risk of the surgery- just didn't want it to happen to me so I'm pouting about it. i am however looking forward to getting off the protonix.

What is the down time for those that have had it?

thanks!

Ugh that stinks!  I had to have my gallbladder out exactly 8 weeks after my RNY.  For me, down time was only a few days!  My surgery was on  Thursday and I was back to work on Monday.

I had my gallbladder removed in 2007 and it was a breeze!  The only pain I experienced was gas pains but I was out of the house and shopping the very next day.  Good luck to you!

So sorry! Yeah, I get the pouting... pouting myself a little today, my great weekend highlighting the suckiness of not feeling well....

I had my gallbladder out way pre-WLS, but I too was good in a couple of days....

It was pretty easy for me too. I had mine out 14 years ago, just a month or so after my son was born. Most are outpatient, but I ended up spending the night because I didn't want to wake up. I remember the gas pains being the worst with that surgery (worse than my RNY and Hysterectomy)... but maybe that's because it was my first surgery?

I'm sorry you're having to go through it, but if you're like me, you'll feel so much better!!

It's not actually the surgery that causes gallbladders to go wonky, but the massive and rapid weight loss. Lots of folks that lose a ton of weight without surgery suffer the same fate.

I've seen a lot of folks go through this on OH over the years. Most seem to think the gallbladder surgery is a breeze, but a fair number have a rough time for a while. Here's hoping this is just a minor bump in the road for you.

thanks Grim.

I'm not thrilled but also happy that I'm not suffering attacks from it.

A gallbladder attack is is the worst pain I've ever experienced and I've had natural childbirth. I'm glad you haven't had to deal with the pain.

My recovery SUCKED, but I think that was the hernia repair that happened during the same sugery as my gallbladder removal. My navel got infected after the surgery, so be prepared for that possibility.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I was out of work for a week and feeling a bit exhausted for probably a week after that.  Generally easy peasy though. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
