Trying to get a consult

I have selected a doctor after a lot of research. I called the office. I have to submit my operation reports from my lap band placement and removal. That was easy I got them from the hospital. They also want a copy of my authorization to have Lapband. I called the insurance company and they said only the provider can request that or to get it from the original surgeon. I don't want to contact the original surgeon because i am afraid they will want to know why I am not having surgery there and that is just something I don't want to get into. So I hope the new doctor can get them

so I am going to fax the operation reports on Monday and wait to see if the doctor will take me on.

Is it standard that if you had a surgery already the doctor wants your reports before seeing you?

Excited and scared!

I would think it's a good idea.... that way they have all the information and know what they are talking about, rather than telling you 'maybes'....

I would call the office and ask them to request the lapband approval letter....Better to have it all in place before an appointment...

Have you met your new doctor? - usually you meet them in person or at a public info meeting - to make sure they are a good fit for you. Hopefully, you will be going to their Support Group meetings and seeing the for years of happy follow-up -labwork and physicals.  If this doctor doesn't seem like a good fit - keep looking, although it can be a pain.

Usually, the patient has met the doctor before the patient decides they want to use that surgeon.  But, if you are skipping that step, the doctor will want the reports to see what you need now.  I suppose the insurance authorization letter will give some indication if your revision will be covered by insurance.

Best wishes- it is very typical to get a band to surgery revision.

Good luck.

I should have phased that better. He is the doctor that I have selected to go with to see if I am comfortable with him in person. On paper, facts, experience, and history he is the doctor I like the most. I am going to the seminar this week bu****ched a recording of his seminar I found online.

You're allowed to change your mind, anytime.  The seminars are free- so no reason not to check a few out.

Good luck with your journey - you've given the band a try so you know if WL surgery is a good option for you.

I doubt your old doctor will ask you any questions about why you want this paperwork. I'd just call and have it, that way, no matter which doctor you choose, you have that paperwork with you for future reference. Doctor's offices go through office staff a lot, and maybe the person you talk to won't even know who you are.
