How bad was your hair loss after surgery?
on 8/14/16 9:35 am
Hi all,
I am 7 weeks out from surgery and starting to notice that my hair is thinning in the top - not a big deal right now, but I'm wondering how much more hair loss/thinning to expect. Will it get to a point where I need a wig? Does the thinning eventually stop, and if so, when?
Thank you so much for any advice you can give me.

Currently, inside my local JCPenny salon, a NIOXIN hair-thinning kit is on sale from a regular price of $44 down to $18. I started using it after WLS and continue to use it today finding it a wonderful product even though I don't need it. The worst stretch of hair thinning started at 3 months and ended around 12 months out. The time frame and amount of hair loss varies from person to person. I purchased a faux ponytail to make it appear I had lots of hair but it wasn't necessary.
Everybody is different... my hair actually got better after WLS... I did take a biotin hair supplemnt (It Works, and I don't sell it)... and I always aimed for high end of protein even in the beginning.....
I still go to support meetings and have never hear anyone say it didn't come back...

I have a lot of hair and for a while, so did my shower. It lasted for about six weeks and while it was pretty scary at the time, it did stop. I didn't do anything special about it, just let it run its course. The only people who noticed were me, my husband (due to the hairy shower) and my hairdresser.

Mine is bad at the bottom under. I have always had fine hair. I just had my 6 month check up Wednesday and my surgeon commented on my hair. He asked me what I was doing. I told him I was getting my vitamins, protein, biotien. He too said Nioxin. With as thin as my hair is i am going to go with level 4. Good luck stick with your protiens, take your vitamins and keep going! You wont need a wig and you will look gorgeous either way!
Hugs
I'm 3 months out tomorrow. I use Nioxin as well. I have noticed some shedding, but I've always had periods of shedding, and so far it's not as bad as when my thyroid went wonkey.
I will see if it gets worse, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. My hair is longer than it's been in years, I have purposely grown it out so that, if need be, I'll go with a really cute short-er cut.
