What's On Your Thursday Menu, RNYers?

Late post...busy day...I'm at a school with no AC, and I'm feeling hot and cranky. I'm considering leaving early and taking phone calls from home this afternoon. 10-12 hour work days in hot schools, with 4 hours of commute times, are killing my gentle soul. One wee****il school starts. ONE WEEK!

Good morning OH Buddies!
Sorry for my absence. I had a bit of an adventure. I had an internal hernia. Wheee! Apparently this is a complication that can happen for RNY folks. The surgeon said "Your insides get skinny too" and that allows your bowels to roam about a bit. Basically my small intestines decided the grass was greener on the other side of my large intestines and they got wrapped up. I had this bizarre pain that felt like the worst gas pain EVA and then this alien bulge on the right side of my belly popped up. I called my Guy in to check it out and asked, "Is this what skinny people farts look like? Is this normal??" He immediately said, "NO! NOT normal...get in the car." ER visit and then a second ER visit when it returned was followed by several days in the hospital and surgery to repair everything. My RNY doctor did the procedure and he said everything is "good to go" now. Another day in the hospital to recover and FINALLY poop again (I went 7 full days with no poo...It was the worst). Today I am back at work and feeling tired but good.
Lessons learned:
- Skinny people do not grow alien babies if they have gas
- Pooping is AH-mazing and I will never take it for granted again
- After the surgery and discharge for hospital stay I was up 8 pounds!!!
- Weight post surgery is mostly fluid from the IVs and I lost that 8 pounds in 2 days, actually lost more than I gained now, weird.
- Complications are possible with RNY even when you thought all was going well
- Complications have still been 100% worth it
- When you are away from your support buddies on OH, you miss them! Glad to be back.
