I messed up

4 weeks out, and I have lost 24 pounds; but even better, I have to wear a belt to keep my pants up! Such a positive result, and I really messed myself up yesterday. I didn't eat or drink anything I wasn't supposed to. What I did was worse. I got busy running errands (my excuse), and I didn't eat or drink enough yesterday. So when I got home I prepared dinner - cod with squa**** was the first day I was allowed to eat moist meats. It tasted so good, and I ate it way too fast. I have not had any problems with dumping or vomiting until last night. I was so sick. I was on the verge of being dehydrated. I definitely learned an important lesson. I need to be more mindful of carrying high protein snacks with me, as well as a water bottle. How could I be so stupid? Did I let my positive results allow me to become more relaxed? Who knows? What I do know is that every day I need to stay positive, be responsible for my actions, and be more mindful of the importance of following doctor orders. Here's to a new day, and a positive day, a day filled with responsible actions.

Oh yuck, I'm sure we've all had days when we ate too fast or a little too much and it made us sick.  I remember rushing out to my follow up appointment and needing to eat before I left, so I shoveled it in and I had the slimies in the car all the way to the surgeons office.  I was literally spitting in a cup in the car because I couldn't swallow my spit.

It'll take time and things will get easier, and you'll learn when to slow down.    I also had cod for dinner last night and it was delicious!

I did this today, had a few bites of chicken and I didn't chew well enough bc I was in a hurry. SO glad I had a cup in the car...

Those slimies are horrible!

Learning to take care of our bodies is a 2 way street - avoid excess food and avoid getting too little. It happens though. I definitely have had days where I forget or don't have time to eat or just too busy running around. It will get easier as you get further out - you'll have more options available to stop and grab a snack if needed.

Just make sure you stay hydrated!! I ended up in the ER for dehydration a couple weeks post op. THAT is no fun at all (especially when ER docs don't comprehend WLS basics and the fact that I was there bc I literally couldn't drink that much - as they tried to force feed me tons of water. )

Happy 24 pounds lighter, Vicki8250.  Yes, a good rule early post-op is to never let a water bottle leave your hand.  Here's a TIP for you:  I keep a filled water bottle next to my bed.  Waking up dry and thirsty makes for an easy, effortless way to get in a large amount of water right out of the gate.

I am learning so much by reading these comments so hopefully I will be ready for my RnY on 9 September.  I have a question, I see all the time that it is so important to drink and stay hydrated.  Just curious, what are the signs if one is not drinking enough?

The same signs you'd see in a "normal" person would still apply. Thirst, fatigue, dry mouth, nausea, feeling hungry, headache, and urine being too dark are some signs that you need more fluids.

To add to what Audrey said, also strong odor from your urine, and irritability

We all can be stupid sometimes. You know what you have to do now to stay on plan. Life lessons suck sometimes.

They do suck, but we remember them better than the textbook lessons.
