Going Bald at 4 weeks post op DEVESTSTED
Anita, this is a very, very common effect post-surgery and has been mentioned by many here. I had RNY when I was 57 and had very long, extremely thick hair...I lost so much in the first 6 months post-surgery that I thought I would have to go to wigs, and I sure felt devastated too by the very noticeable bald patches! But here I am, 3 years later, age 60 and my hair is every bit as thick as when I was 17...possibly even thicker. Don't be too concerned - unless there is another underlying issue, you are likely to see your hair regrow!
Good luck in reaching your goals!
I don't like his answer at all. That does not make any sense . I'm not a dr but I work in surgery and we have cases that last 10-12 hours or more and I've never heard of a patient losing hair Bc of anesthesia. Like I said I'm not a dr at all though. How devistating it must be for you though. I hate it that your going through this.

I woke up from surgery with my hair line on right side of my head burning and numb. I feel like it's sharp small pains sporadically around my scalp only on right side. I was told it's the nerve endings from being to long under but why only the right side. I expected hair loss but this is bald spots in that same area I'm just so upset.
im calling my primary care I can't deal with this thank you for your response
I just wanted to let you know that I am 12 years out from surgery. I also lost clumps of hair that I didn't notice but others did. After my body leveled out and I began get the proper nutrients my hair grew back in. I did however had to use a wig here and there and cut my hair extremely short. Short as in Jamie Lee Curtis short. It was just horrible time in my post op recovery, however I did get my hair back. Other than that have your primary Doctor check your thyroid levels cause that also cause hair loss. Hang in there it does get better.
Wow ! I've been reading more about this and I never knew anything about it. I thought our hair loss was caused from a hormone dump alone. This is very interesting , I love learning new stuff. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

I'm very sorry that this is happening.
I swore my hair was falling out at the hospital like crazy. I even saw the nurse picking it off my pillow, yet after, people told me I was crazy and it couldn't have been. When I could finally shower ...I could feel the difference running my hands through my wet hair. I didn't have bald patches, but I totally understand your upset.
