4 1/2 years out and suddenly gaining! HELP!
Just so you know the meat test isn't just for WLS patients. My husband after 6 weeks of going all protein has lost 12lbs and 3 1/2 inches around his waist. This last week he did start adding 1 1/2 cups of fresh salad veggies to his dinner only. Breakfast and lunch is still just protein. He feels so much better and wants to lose another 48lbs. His energy level hasn't been higher and he even started lifting weights again.
When I stick to just all protein (meat, chicken, eggs, and a little cheese) I feel a difference in just a couple of days. None of us are perfect and many of us slip back into old habits, but if we can nip them in bud sooner rather than later we can all get the regains off or get to our goal weights.
This all sounds very Adkins-ish. My BF lost quite a bit of weight on Adkins a few years back. I definitely need to break my carb dependence! If being protein heavy will get rid of those cravings, I'm in! I definitely need to keep a log also. I just jotted down what I ate today, and I'm already up to almost 700 calories! And I haven't had dinner yet! Planning on a nice hunk of ribeye tonite, to get things started right! HA You guys are awesome. Thanks so much!!!

Go to myfitnesspal.com to log your foods, it's easy and it gives you how many calories, carbs. proteins you are eating. It really helps
That's a fantastic idea - and one I really need. I don't even realize how much I'm eating in a day. I guess I've done what they call "learning to eat around your pouch"....I'm a grazer. Have to nip that in the bud, too! Do you know if that website has a mobile app? That would make it REALLY awesome!
Thanks!!!

Please reply what you think contributed to a 30 pound regain at 4 1/2 years out? Change in physical location, change in diet, change in exercise, change in health, change in family dynamics, change in job...? Recently, I volunteered at a rummage sale fundraiser helping put mostly 25-cent stickers on donated things like picture frames, baskets, kitchen gadgets... We raised over $400 in a six-hour time frame. It's hard to believe a quarter here and a quarter there can add up that fast. Carbs are my quarters. Let us know how well the meat thing goes.
It was totally a change in my diet, along with routine changes. Started working in the city. Eating lunch out every day (off carts - local delis and such - NY is dangerous when it comes to good food!!). Also, I've been much lazier about cooking once I got home at night. I used to eat a home cooked meal just about every night. Now it's a frozen fried chicken cutlet from Costco, and some spinach....or worse, breakfast for dinner nights! And pretzels. Those DAMN pretzels. The big, fat, hard, crunchy UTZ sourdough pretzels, covered in salt. I get a little tingly just thinking about them. I could polish off a big jug of them in a weekend. So basically, my quarters are really Susan B Antony dollars! HA I have picked up a bunch of bad habits that I'm having trouble shaking. Just never thought it would sneak up on me so harshly, and so quickly!!!
But one step at a time, right? Instead of an egg sandwich for lunch, I got an omelet instead - no bread! Yay for me! A tiny little victory. Just need to keep that going! The fact that my pants are tight enough to give me a perpetual wedgie is a wonderful reminder, though.
I highly recommend this book. Great book It has been helping me with some issues that have come up the past several months.
