Eating out success
DH and I are out of town for a few days. Last night e went out to eat for the 1st time post op. Went to Red lobster and they had an option to add a skewer of grilled scallops his meal. Did that and yum, they were so good. I was really sort of scared about eating out the first time, and so glad it worked out fine.
Tonight he's thinking about Chinese in our room. If the protein he gets isn't breaded I may try a little of that. Otherwise I have my standby tuna packet. Starting to learn "real life" coping skills.ð?¤--

When eating out - I often ask for a side of shrimp or chicken...or both... Instead of "meal". Chicken can be tricky..but shrimp works well for me even a few weeks out.

two years out (VSG) I still only get an appetizer or share a meal for takeout - a full meal will last for leftovers at least once or twice but some things don't reheat well. one of my decision making factors was I heard Lisa Lampanelli, who had VSG, say - I go eat like a normal person at a restaurant, except I have a few spoonsfuls of soup, half an entree and a few bites of dessert. I was sold!

Even as newly out as I am, and with the most persnickety pouch ever, I really enjoy the hot and sour soup at a chinese restuarant! I also have had the inside of the dumplings/potstickers with success.
Love that idea about the side of scallops! We are going to Dallas this weekend with my hubby's coworkers and I know there will be a lot of eating out. I think I'll look for add ons like that!

Chinese food: I'm not sure if I could have found things to eat there really early out (I remember eating a lot of chili or shrimp ****tails at restaurants back then...), but now I would order something with meat and vegetables (NOTE: not fried and/or breaded meat!), skip the rice, and just eat one cup of food and take the rest home.
I just started eating out and find something at most places, just small amounts and psrt of meals I used to eat.
Tonight I had 3 oz steak and green beans, and was happy with the volume and control.
What is funny is the looks the youg waitress gives me when I order no drink or appitezer, but sit and wait for my meal to come, and they think I did not like thw meal because I take so much home.
But it feels great to be able to sit comfortablly in a booth and enjoy my meal.
yea - I was at an Indian buffet once with friends and ordered off the menu. I ate my usual one cup of it, and asked for the rest to be boxed up. The waiter clearly thought I didn't like the food, even though I told him I'd had stomach surgery and couldn't eat much (I didn't tell him what kind of stomach surgery). Next the manager came out and wondered if i didn't like the food. I again explained that the food was great - I just couldn't eat much because I'd had stomach surgery. Then he offered to give me a free dessert. ARRRGGHHH!! Maybe I should have just ordered a cup of soup instead!!!
