Morning my fav WLS peeps! So excited to hear about the All Stars practice for Michael, sounds awesome! Buying clothes now is not a chore or something I dread, its fun and refreshing to be able to go in any store. Your $24 score Calvin dress is gorgeous! Get Matt to take you out for a nice dinner or something! You need to wear that and show us a pic of you in it!
QOTD: most recent purchase was shoes, (shoes count as clothes right?) I got two pairs of ballerina flats, one black one striped that has pink tones, these ones I showed you guys a few weeks ago. BUT I will be going to hit up TARGET this weekend in Boston, clothes shopping here I come!!!
I am feeling a whole lot better today. I would day I am 98% better. My bruised arm and hand still hurt but the "flu like feeling" is gone.
But OMG you guys, story time... hubby plays baseball on Tuesday evenings. He always texts me when he is on his way home and then just before he gets to the house. So I got a text at 9:00 saying he was 5 mins away from home. So I went and sat on the front porch waiting for him with the dogs. Well 9:15, 9:20, 9:25 comes and goes. I was all like "how is that 5 mins away??" Then my phone rings at 9:30, its hubby. He opens with "there has been a horrific accident" to which I almost passed out from fear thinking he was hurt, he then goes "wait I AM FINE, but the car in front of me hit a cyclist." The driver was in a mini van going about 100kms (60 mph) and hit the kid on the bike full on, dragged him about 500 feet. Long story short. Hubby throws his truck in the middle of the intersection to block traffic so no one runs over the body (massive head trauma, no helmet on the kid).
Guy driving the mini van that hit the kid is in shock just sitting in his car, hubby jumps out and calls 911 and explains what just happened. A few other cars stopped as well and hubby and these other helpers get towels and blankets for the kid on the road, hubby said it was just down right horrific, he has never seen that amount of blood and broken body parts. So fire/ambulance/police come, take the kid away to the local trauma centre and hubby gives his report to the police.
Oddly while I was sitting on the front porch with the dogs waiting for him I heard the sirens as we have a fire station around the corner from us, and you know I said in my head "oh god let that not be a bad call" (again with my I get these weird feelings about things) as this happens about 3 blocks from our house. So hubby had been calling me giving me updates and what is happening. So because he was a first responder on the scene he was considered part of the accident although the cops were well aware he had nothing to do with the accident but because he put his truck into the middle of the intersection he has to stay until the Crime Scene people came and did their jobs.
At 11pm I said to hubby what do you need from me? He said nothing, just go to bed. I took a sleeping pill, went to bed, I was so upset. Hubby got home just after midnight. At 3am he woke up screaming and having a nightmare and grabbed for me. Poor guy he is beyond traumatised and has major PTSD happening.
As I was driving into work this morning on the local radio station they talked about this accident, kid was 17 on his way home from a friends house, crossed the street just randomly, not at a light, no helmet. Died on his way to the hospital. My hubby is devastated. He took the day off work. He has texted me all morning and he keeps saying "I should have done more, I could have done more, he should not have died." Please pray for the the boy, the family and hubby to find strength. Ugh I am sad and feeling like I need to hug all the people in my life I love today.

Sorry to hear about the accident your Hubby witnessed. It sounds like he did a great job and handled the pressure when he needed to. he may need to talk with someone. I spent 15 years as a volunteer, we used to have critical stress debriefs after every incident such as this as it is very traumatizing. He will always carry the visual of that boy in his mind. It will never go away. Just reiterate what w wonderful job he did in blocking traffic and keeping his poise under pressure.
