Second post of the day, sorry just having an issue with dr
So I posted a discussion today and was in an emotional feel like a failure mess but I wasted to share something my dr told me today that really frustrated the crap out of me ....
I mentioned to my dr that I do not have and full sensation like others in support groups and he said he does not believe in restriction so he does not create a standardized pouch, he likes his patients to be able to eat better than most new post ops and ......... He drew out a normal pouch then drew what he created in my stomach, a long slender 10 centimeter cylinder as my new stomach, he said it allows his patients to eat better the first 6 months of their journey with little to no vomitting ! WHAT???? I just want a normal pouch, I thought there were standards to doing this surgery.... No wonder I don't understand what people are talking about when they describe 2 or 3 bites then full!
i just wanted a normal pouch like everyone else ...

I would be so disappointed too! Don't feel like a failure though... you have come too far and don't have much further to go. Put a plan together and get the rest of your weight off for you! You can do this, but I think it would make me feel a little better to let the dr. know that you were unaware that your pouch was going to be larger than the norm. I have not had my revision yet, but I thought that the pouch actually stretches as time goes on. Let him know your concerns. And I am going to talk to my surgeon about size. Hang in there!

Please ask beforehand . I did ask a lot of questions, however I never dreamed to ask if he made a pouch that wasn't standard .

"cylinder" sounds like he actually gave you a sleeve. Rny pouches are usually shaped like a drawstring purse
He did the bypass and assured me that he created the anastomoses .... I guess he thought he was being innovative . Grrrrr

I can understand why you feel frustrated and I wish he'd explained this to you before your surgery. What I want to tell you, though, is that in the end it probably won't make much different. Even if your pouch is bigger than the standard pouch, your stomach used to be the size of a football and it was stretchy. You new pouch is a lot smaller than that and less stretchy. You will not be able to eat anywhere near as much as you ate pre-op and you're going to lose a lot of weight.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Thanks. I hope your right. I was a band revision and was banded for 7 years so, just the ability to eat well makes me feel better . I guess I was used to feeling restriction and worry about not having it. I'm gonna do my part and do the best I can with my cylinder pouch.
