At the dr office and anxiety is rising

im at my 11 weeks post op visit ..... While in the lobby, I'm feeling so anxious that I just started tearing up for no reason other than I feel like I'm a failure. I've lost 21 lbs and so many people in here have lost 45-60 at this point . The devil on my shoulder is poking at me saying you knew this wasn't gonna work for you.  Part of me is saying ok even if your not ever gonna lose another lb you still feel so much better than with a problem band, no more reflux . My biggest fear is that this won't work for me . I never knew this would be such an emotional journey . I really do feel physically better but I'm beginning to wonder if I might need to seek out a counselor . I've asked when  should have labs checked and she said not until 1 year out, so what if I'm not taking the correct supplements for me and that is why I'm feeling down or not losing well. I lost 13 lbs the first week, then 3 more on week 4. Then it's taken me 7.5 weeks to lose 6 more lbs . My nurse is telling me that I need to increase weight training and see if that helps so I guess I'll do that .  I hear people saying that this honeymoon period is so much easier than later .... But I'm afraid I won't make it to goal at all.

First... :::::deep breath::::: In.... Out.... In... Out...

You didn't have as much weight to lose as other people. I was 260 when I started this. I walked in on surgery day weighing 251.

That's a lot more than you. That means I'll lose weight, at first anyway, faster than you...

As long as you are eating correctly, it will happen!

And if I'm not mistaken, I believe the honeymoon phase is different for those that have revised from the band. It's not a race to the finish line you, it's just getting there!

I'm no pro, so take this with a grain of salt, but from what I've read and seen in many places, weight lifting isn't going to help you lose faster... it WILL give you more muscle mass, which in turn, muscle burns more than fat does, so it'll help eventually I would think, but not to make it happen faster.

Just relax, and certainly don't think of yourself as a failure!!! You're nowhere near that!!!

(((hugs)))

Hang in there. It will get better, and weight may be slower with a revision, you will be successful.

I had a revision too, and although the weight loss is a big bonus, the GERD, reflux, and other issues are gone. I already feel like a new person, and enjoying life so much better than the last many years.

First, please do not feel like a failure. You are doing great - every pound counts and loosing as "low" as 10% of your excess body weight is already huge for any body....

That being said, I personally stalled for 3 weeks from week 4 to week 7, and thought this is never going to end....but I talked to my nut and she recommended to increase my calories from 800 a day to around 1000.

I did this by adding 1 Protein Shake more, now I am around 1000 a day and around 90 gr of protein.

Ever since the weight is coming off like crazy. The Nut says if you are eating not enough calories, your body goes in starvation mode and holds on to everything it can. Maybe this is something you could look into?

I do weight lifting twice a week and feel great, because it gives my body some kind of structure.

Again, you are doing great! Every body is different and every journey is different.

I just left my doctors office and he was not happy that I dipped below 800 cal he said that I must get in 1000 cal a day he also said that I need to begin lifting weights and building muscle and to put the scale away and only pull it out one time per month

Relax. Hormones are all over the place after surgery. One thing I have learned is never compare. We all are so different.

Seeking therapy is not a bad idea. It wouldn't hurt anyone to have a mental tune up.

Check my stats, I didn't lose a crapload like some other people, but I did lose 52 before surgery. People will lose differently. this is not a race against others, but with yourself. your own process.

weight lifting is great, but is for your muscles probably not for weight loss.

I've also stayed at under 800 calories since the beginning. It is totally doable - even with 6 meals a day like I do.

You are considered a lightweight so you really can't compare yourself to anyone else in the office.  You are also a revision so you'll likely lose slower in that regard too.  As long as you follow the plan, this works!  It does.  Drink lots of water, I drink over a gallon per day.  Log everything and always put protein first.  You've got this.
