Question with probably TMI

So I am almost 5 weeks post op and all of a sudden I started getting bright red blood in my stool...even on the toilet paper when I wipe. It then progressed to no stool and just blood. I went to the ER twice and was told each time that everything is fine and to come in only if the pain, nausea, and light headedness gets worse. Now I have progressed to massive diarrhea with blood still in it.

Has anyone had anything like this? I've already seen two doctors, one of which was from the bariatric unit but I feel like I shouldn't be having blood..

I apologize for the detailed bowel movement information!

I would go back to the emergency you really need to get that checked.  I hope you feel better soon.

I would be horrified!  I don't know what more you can do, but anytime I'm bleeding like that, I know there has to be a problem.

When they tell you everything is fine, what are they saying?  Is it internal hemorrhoids?  How much blood is in your stool?  I have had ER docs try to push me off when I have a problem, and I've had to push and push to get results.

Sounds like it's an infection and they should do a stool sample for C. Diff. that will give you bloody stools and bad diarrhea. I would continue to pursue it. Not sure where you are with your diet. But you should be on fluids or soft foods only until this clears up .

good luck

Thanks for all the input. My second ER trip, I actually got to meet with the surgeon and be seen by the bariatric staff and they determined that it isn't anything serious at the moment. Apparently I am to go back only if I lose consciousness, throw up, or get a fever. They ruled out hemeroids and did extensive blood work which showed that everything was fine. I guess I just wanted to feel better about it and find out if anyone else experienced this at all...I will definitely be watching my diet and seeing if this just goes away like the doctors told me.

thanks again for your comments! I really appreciate them! It's been a really rough couple of days.

I've also had blood in my stool since my RNY. Sometimes alot and sometimes a little but for me it was a fissure due to hard stools. I've had to start taking a fiber supplement to improve things.  I would seek out another doctor's opinion asap.
