1 week out & have a few questions
I had my surgery 1 week ago today. I have not experienced any "dumping," but over the weekend my water seemed to be going straight through me. Is this "normal?" How long does your body typically take to adjust to to the new routine? I am only taking in broth, water, my protein drinks, and sugar-free popsicles, and I am concerned that I never feel hungry or full - shouldn't I at least feel hunger? I seem to be cold a lot, even though the temp outside "feels like 103". Has anyone else been cold after their surgery, if so - how long does it last? How much walking were you all doing right after surgery? What is a normal weight loss during the liquid diet phase (first 2 weeks)?
Hi there, I'm sure someone else might be able to help better but I am 6 weeks out from my surgery today and like you I had no hunger or fullness. However I am starting to notice it's starting to come back now. I'm feeling hungry today. so from what I know its totally normal not feeling hungry or full.
I was walking about half-way down my street and back by a week out and I'd do that several times a day. along with walking in the house to get whatever I needed.
I didn't have the liquids going straight through but it might depend on how much you have been drinking. At first I was just getting in the bare minimum.
I was also cold but my husband keeps it like a freezer in our house so It wasn't anything out of the norm for me.
I think weight loss varies for everyone but personally I was at about 15 lbs by the end of the second week.
I hope this helps
Weight loss varies depending on how much you have to lose, how much you lost before surgery, and random acts of gnomes. LOL Basically, there is no set standard.
Cold? Oh yes.... many of us stay cold. It is a thing.
Hunger won't be a thing for a while. Be very careful not to over do it. Your new pouch doesn't have the nerve connections you had before surgery and it is easy to hurt your pouch if you progress faster than your doctor recommends. Just follow the doc and go slow.
Yes everything goes through you much faster. That is normal.
Walking is just as tolerated. I felt SUUUPPPERRR exhausted about three days after surgery until about 3 weeks. Give yourself time to heal and walk only as much as you feel comfortable walking.
Try the search bar on this forum and search for topics that you have questions about as they come up. Often times you will find lots of other folks have had the same or similar experiences.
Best wishes! Enjoy your journey.

I am currently 4 months out.
In the weeks following surgery, I had a problem with water going straight through me. I actually got a bit dehydrated despite drinking the recommended amount of water. I started mixing my water with crystal light and drinking decaf coffees, then things got alot better in terms of hydration.
I had absolutely zero hunger until about 6 weeks out. I had to force myself to eat on a schedule. Even now, I don't really get "hungry" like I used to. Every 4 hours or so, my mind starts thinking about food and that's the only hungry-like feeling I have. I have heard that many others have a much different experience and feel hungry constantly. The experience seems to vary greatly amongst people I've heard from.
As for fullness, I always measure everything. I find that I don't really have a reliable full feeling. I get lots of strange sensations in the pouch, but nothing I can really pin-point as "hey, you're full now".
The cold feeling bothered me a bit after surgery, because it was different than normal. Before surgery, I was constantly hot and sweating even at room temperature. I'd be the person out in a t-shirt when it's 0 celcius out. I've gotten used to the cold feeling now. I have silk scarvest that I drape over me if I get too chilly. I gauge what thickness of clothing to wear differently. It's become so normal now, I even completely forgot about it until you mentioned it.
Right after surgery, I was extremely fatigued. I could only walk for about 15 minutes max at a time. So I took 2-3 walks a day and tried to stay busy on my feet as much as possible outside of that. The hospital didn't want me in bed too much, but I still took like 3 hour naps in the afternoon =. I was sooo tired.
I don't think there is a "normal" weight loss so soon after surgery. I lost 18lbs in the first two weeks (probably some massive water loss). I've heard from other people that they lost nothing or even just 1-3lbs.
