What's On Your Thursday Menu, RNYers?

Morning ya'll! It's Thursday, Yay! I spent all day yesterday in a meeting that barely pertained to me. I was the proverbial 'fly on the wall'... and I just wish at some point someone would have squished me and put me out of me misery! LOL I got so sleepy, that at one point I blinked my eyes and they just didn't open! I had to consciously tell myself to open my damned eyes and not fall asleep! hahaha!

QOTD: I'm trying to remember the last time I had a really good belly laugh. I laugh a lot, so I'm certain I've had a good laugh since the one I'm going to describe, but this one was just hilarious. We were on the last leg of arriving at my dad's house in Florida (flying all day, and then 1.5 hour drive after midnight. We were all exhausted). Driving through the Everglades and we come across a sign that said "Panther Crossing next 7 miles"... my son had misunderstood the lyrics on a song that was on the radio, and thought there a Meowing sound... all of a sudden my husband says "Here Kitty, kitty kitty"... anyway, you had to be there, but all four of us were laughing our asses off... That was about 3 weeks ago.

B: Premier Protein Shake

L: Not sure, but leaning towards hummus

D: Again, I suck at this.

Yesterday I went to lunch with the group from the meeting and we ended up at a Swadley's BBQ... I got the ribs, beans and greenbeans. I ate less than 1/2 of a rib and only a spoonful or two of each bean. I ended up sick from it. I don't know... I swear I chewed, the ribs were fall off the bone tender... I didn't eat fast... but stuck I was... until like midnight. Worst part was I tried to go to sleep, but when this happens to me, things are always coming back up my throat (mostly just liquid)... so at the risk of a TMI, I kept having to get up because as I would relax to fall asleep, the liquid would rise, and I would almost choke!

So today... liquids and really soft stuff...

I know... 8 weeks out isn't that long... meats are tricky... yada yada yada... but I have to admit, I'm pretty jealous of those of you that can eat them! I just want meat already! Getting pretty tired of fish, but I guess I'm just not ready yet. I'm going to try some lunchmeat this weekend. Even though I'm not a huge fan of lunchmeat, I think it would help me feel like I'm getting some meat in!

When I have to be in meetings like that, I start to take notes (even if I don't need them) just to stay focused and not let my mind drift off to somewhere else.

You know it.  Meats are hard, and you are early in your journey. Hang in there.  You'll be able to tolerate more and more dense protein.  Chicken and steak took the longest for me to be able to eat.  The first steak I could eat was a medium rare filet.

Thanks... a medium rare filet would be heaven to me. I usually order rare in the restaurants because then it comes out medium rare! hahaha

Patience... I'm working on that. Well I've been working on patience my entire life

Thanks for the response ;)

Hey Pammie, 8 weeks out is hard... I fully appreciate you want to be where a lot of us are at and eat the way we do.  Don't ru**** it will come.  Can I recommend some protein foods that might be good for 8 weeks out.

  • egg salad, and chop up your egg's nice and small and make it creamy with mayo or Greek yogurt and any spices you like
  • tuna salad, and same as the egg salad, chop it up fine, lots of celery and onions and mayo or Greek yogurt and any spices you like
  • Chili!! OMG I ate a lot of chili early out, it was great!
  • Pulled pork
  • Slow cooker chicken will be super moist and lots of "gravy" to go along with it
  • "World According to Eggface" Egg bites.  These are amazing and I ate A LOT of these early out. I am going to buy the ingredients for some more for breakfasts for next week.  Eggface's website also has lots of ideas for the 8 week stage.
  • Baby bel cheese & string cheese. Almost all cheese works
  • Yogurt
  • Ricotta bake (Eggface recipe)
  • Liver pate & brie cheese
  • Salmon or crab cakes with a yogurt dill sauce for dipping
  • Shrimp & ****tail sauce
  • Pepperoni crisped in the microwave with spaghetti sauce & Parmesan cheese

Hopefully that gives you some ideas and helps you out!  Don't forget to always chew foods well, to the point that they turn to water in your mouth.  Small bites the size of your baby finger nail.

GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks! I do a lot of these, and I do love everything you listed... I just have a hard time when eating out. This particular BBQ place we went to had NOTHING good. I guess looking back, perhaps the pulled pork would have been a better alternative.

I also have to get it in my big head that my little pounch is LITTLE... even when measuring, I can't do the full 2oz of protein + 1 oz of veggie. I just can't.

Last night I took a cheese stick and wrapped it in turkey lunchmeat (1.1oz) and browned it in a pan with PAM. I only ate less than 2/3 of it, and I stopped. About 30  minutes later I was very full - but not sick full. I don't have that switch that tells me when to stop... even if I'm measuring it out to what my Doc suggested.

I haven't had any egg salad in a while... I think I'll make that for dinner.

I also haven't tried shrimp yet! I need to do that!

Morning Gang!  Its almost the weekend!  Yippee!  We had a major thunderstorm roll through in the middle of the night too, I love storms, especially when I am curled up under the blankets all toasty and warm!  Its also gross hot & humid here too, like I feel clammy and I have a killer pressure headache.  Bring back the sun!!!

QOTD: OMG I laugh daily and I mean belly laugh, like tears rolling down my cheeks daily.  You all have not met my husband but he is off the charts funny with a wicked sense of humor and he is so quick with come backs, lightening quick and he has me cracked up daily!  I love laughing!!!! But a friend of mine posted this on FB and for some reason it really had me laughing, its a bit vulgar but I still am chuckling when I see it!!!
