What's On Your Thursday Menu, RNYers?
Good Morning Everyone!
QOTD: I feel terrible saying this, but the last time I laughed really hard was when I was watching a video on Facebook of this poor (rather heavy) lady at the beach who fell down and kept trying to stand up, but the waves kept knocking her down, over and over. Her skimpy bikini bottoms kept slipping down and her boobs kept popping out of the top. I could SO relate to her because I was at a water park that had a wave pool and fell down and couldn't get back up because of my knees and my weight. (But at least I wasn't wearing a suit like hers that slipped off at every gush of water!) LOL!
Yesterday I ate: a protein drink, a Clif protein bar, chicken breast, an enchilada, popcorn and a Power protein bar.
Have a great day everyone!
~ Karen
I remember seeing that Video - I think she was drunk as well? LOL....That was a funny one!
I saw that one too. I did not laugh as I felt so badly for her that someone actually videotaped her. I don't laugh at the ones where people are drunk and stupid either for the same reason. I am however one of those nervous laughers though, I do laugh when someone I am with falls for a stupid reason, but not at someone who was unwittingly taped doing so.
The Video I recall seeing was a couple and was clearly staged. They were acting more than anything, but was very funny. I would not laugh at someone in distress.....

Hi Karen, I just wanted to ask how come you eat so many protein bars? Your daily menu's consistently has 2 protein bars, and usually a Lean Cuisine microwave meal. It looks like a lot of calories for 5 months out. Popcorn and mashed potatoes (which is often on your menu) this early out is big warning sign to me. There are so many of us that post a menu daily and you must be able to get some ideas of food, real food meaning not protein bars or shakes that you like to create a better menu for yourself.
I am saying this as your friend, as someone who has been in maintenance for 2 + years and because I care about your success. I really hope you don't take offence to this and I am sorry if you do but I really think you need to get rid of the protein bars, popcorn, mashed potatoes and LC meals. I looked back at MFP for myself when I was 5 months out, I was eating between 600-700 calories daily and was getting 90-100 grams of protein from real food. Happy to share what I ate at 5 months post op.
Remember just because your WLS centre says you can eat certain foods does not mean it is the right foods for optimal weight loss in the first year. We are all here to support you & the other newbies and I am happy chat offline if you want. I am almost 3 years post op and it is only in the last two months that I have allowed popcorn and a protein bar into my menu. I would never have touched those at 5 months.
You need to get back to Dense Protein.
Let me or the other menu posters know what you need from us to help you out.
You CAN do this! HUGS, Daisy

This menu thread has been a big help to me. I was waiting for someone to question the number of protein bars/Shakes I have and this morning I decided to have hard boiled eggs instead of a protein bar ! Yay Me! I will still have a protein bar prior to exercise time, I always need a burst of energy by 6 pm and I bust a move for 90 minutes minimum. I like this Forum!

Hi Duff,
If you have reached your goal weight and drink protein shakes and eat protein bars then I think that is fine, I would not question it at almost 2 years post op, its quite another thing to be 5 months post op and eating those daily. BIG difference in my opinion.
For me early out I drank protein shakes but once I was able to tolerate dense protein I dropped the shakes in preference for real food, but that's just me, I prefer to "chew" and have food versus a shake.
You also seem to exercise a lot, so for sure the shake and or bar is convenient prior to exercise. Could you eat something else instead, sure, but if this is working for you and you have reached your goal and you are having no problems maintaining your weight loss then I think its fine. I don't see in your ticker if you have reached your goal weight or not, if you haven't I personally would not drink the shakes or the bars until I got to goal. Truly dense protein is the way to go to get to goal.
I am really glad you joined us on the menu thread, the more the merrier. I am also so pleased that our menu posts are helping you. Don't hesitate to ask questions, we are all here for the same reason, community support for this WLS journey!

Thank you Daisy ! I appreciate the support and I need a good support group, am glad I found this one. Very active and so many veterans, is very inspiring!
Thank you, Daisy, for your input. Yes, you're right, I am eating too many calories and relying on protein bars and microwave meals. I rarely cook and I am lazy so they are just easier. I also seem to get sick when I eat dense protein. I bought some ribeye steaks and lean hamburger at the store this week and am going to try to eat those instead of microwave meals. Thank you for caring!

It took me 11 months to be able to tolerate dense proteins, I just decided I would not progress as quickly as others when it came to dense proteins. I still have trouble with Chicken breast. Keep up the good work.....
