Last few hours up in Maine, then we are headed back to reality :( The only thing I'm looking forward to is some warmer temps! Lordy it's freezing up here! Yesterday's high was 62 and it's been rainy, too. I used it as a good excuse to buy a cute thick hoodie sweatshirt, though!

Here is a picture of the lobster from last nights dinner. It was cooked in the traditional New England Clam Bake style--in a pit covered in seaweed and steamed with ocean water. Mmm. Extra yummy.


QOTD: are you one of the many post-ops who suffer from being cold all the time? It never affected Grim, which seems weird to me. So most days that he is in shorts and a t-shirt, I'm in sweaters and possibly even have a hat and mittens (in July). It's bananas.

Glad you're having a great time in Maine, JB & Grim!

QOTD:  I'm not cold ALL the time, but I'm definitely cooler than I was when I was obese.  Now my daughter says she's hot and I'll be cold.

Yesterday I ate:  a protein drink, a Clif protein bar, potato salad, a Lean Cuisine meal, Mr. Cheese O's, 2 string cheese sticks and a Clif protein bar.  Added up to too many calories.  I'm having trouble keeping my calories down and not being hungry all the time.  I suppose it's head hunger.

Karen, it's just a thought , but things like potato salad and carbs stuff tend to send me on a feeding frenzy, if I stick to strictly protein, I can actually ask myself ... If i am Truelove hungry enough to want a peice of meat, or cheese, if the answer is no, I can chalk it up to head hunger .

Karen, I hope this question/suggestion is well received. Do you have a problem eating dense protein?  I've noticed that you rely heavily on protein bars. I know I'm new to the RNY world but I know when I was a VSG'er and could eat food, a protein bar while giving me the needed protein grams, would never fill me and keep my hunger at bay like a chicken thigh, some ground turkey or fish.  You consistently eat more than one bar a day. If dense protein doesn't bother you, you may try incorporating it more in your diet. Just s suggestion from a relative newbie!

I have eaten relatively few protein bars over the last year.  I have used them occasionally to add to the protein or in emergency situations when other food choices are not great. I do still use Premier Protein in the morning, but I have never been a breakfast person, so it works well for me and gives me 30 grams of protein. I feel most satisfied when I eat dense protein for lunch and dinner and a snack of cheese or something else with some protein in it.  Hope you are healing well.

Thanks. I very rarely (ok never) ate protein bars after my VSG. On hard workout days I would eat a kind bar (like between a run and a weight lifting class) but never ate anything like Quest bars or pure protein bars. In the past when I did eat them, they never kept me satisfied for long. I was really curious about Karen as she seems to rely on the bars heavily rather than for myself!

Hey Karen- if you substitute your potato salad and lean cuisine meals for just dense protein veg- it will help with the head hunger and wanting to eat. The box meals tend to have more salt etc so regular meat would probably be better. Also- the bars for me don't keep me as full as meat does. Even if I have 1 whole one- the meat keeps me fuller longer.
