Got my date! (New here) I've got some questions
Hi everyone!! I'm super excited and nervous at the same time! I got my date of July 29th :):) Not sure what to do in that time in between. Is starting to shop for the foods I can have a little to soon (liquid diet, puréed)? What did you do with this time of waiting? What protein drinks did you like the best? I've heard a lot about premier and would like suggestions on others as well please. Thank you so much! ???
Ask questions on this site as much as you can, both pre op and post op. I felt really mentally prepared because of all the research I did on this site. As for foods, start researching what you can eat at each stage. If you're like me you're probably excited and want to plan. But.. I wouldn't buy anything other than a few protein drinks. Your tastes will change after surgery! My perpetual sweet tooth is gone and I want salty. Plus I bought three huge cans of protein powder that wasn't whey protein isolate and I became lactose intolerant after the surgery and can't drink any of it.
July 29th will be here before you know it!

I don't think I went food shopping until about a week before.
Protein shakes (whether they're good or bad) are such a subjective thing. Lots of people like Premier shakes; I can't stand them. I like a few of the fruity Syntrax Nectar flavors, some people hate 'em. I also like Unjury products. The best thing to do is to order or buy some samples to see what you like, so you're not stuck with a big $40 tub of something you hate. Also, don't forget -some people's tastes change after surgery. Some things (including protein shakes) that you liked pre-op you won't once you're post-op, and vice versa.
I guess what I would do in the interim is buy a bunch of protein shake samples (some have to be ordered online, like Unjury) and a blender bottle to use with them. Also buy things like baby spoons (I actually still use them, at over a year out). You could also start researching and buying vitamins and other supplements, as you'll probably be starting up on them as soon as you're out of the hospital.
Thank you catwoman7 I'll have to try that Unjury also. I hadn't heard of that one also. I have started taking Bariatric Complete multi-vitamin/mineral and that one seems ok so far. Right now I'm trying to figure out a calcium vitamin that would be good. I tried a chewable one and it's kinda like a gummy but when I swallowed it, it's like I could feel it laying in my tummy so I'm worried about taking it after surgery and how it may feel. Thank you for your advice :). Have a great day!
I use several forms of calcium - Upcal D, a powder which I mix into my morning yogurt (supposedly you can mix it into beverages as well, but it suspends rather than dissolves, and I get tired of shaking my beverage before every swig. It works much better in yogurt, I think...). I also have Bariatric Advantage chews and Calcet Creamy bites, which are great for traveling or convenience - like when I'm out running errands. I also have calcium tablets. I rarely swallow the tablets whole, but I'll often drop a couple into my protein shake. They dissolve after awhile in the fruity shakes, which I always mix with Crystal Light lemonade. They don't dissolve as well in the milky ones, though - not enough acid.
