Suggestions for calcium supplements
I am just hitting my 4th week post surgery tomorrow, been doing well, down about 30 pounds from when I walked out of the hospital and tolerating most food I have tried. But where I am having a huge problem is with calcium supplements. I have tried bariatic advantage supplements, tried caltrate and stuff like that but I cannot get past gagging on trying to chew them. Its making me sick every time I try to take them and am getting worried I am not going to be able to find something I can tolerate. What is the problem is the gummy feeling and taste of them. I see my doctor for my second follow up appointment on monday but would like to have some suggestions to bring up to them.
Bariatric Advantage makes more than one kind of calcium citrate supplement. There are the unwrapped round, chalky chewables and then there are the wrapped, candy-like chewy ones in flavors like caramel. Not only do I not gag on the candy-like ones, I have a hard time resisting. The smallest calcium citrate in pill form I've tried is called Citracal Petites which were easy to find at discount stores like Walmart and Target.
I took Calcet creamy bites, soft and a different texture than the other chewables.
I take the PatchMD multivitamin patch which has some calcium and just added the calcium patch. No swallowing involved. There is always a discount code.

At The Vitamin Shoppe, there is a liquid calcium citrate/D3/Magnesium supplement. It's from a company called Solgar. It's a thick liquid, but it's not chalky. It comes in blueberry and strawberry flavors. It's kind of pricy, but may be a good idea to start with. They also sell a calcium citrate powder, but it made me nauseated. ( may not be an issue for you ). Vitamin Shoppe will take a return on something if it doesn't work for you. The liquid isn't shelf stable though, and needs to be refrigerated after opening.
Hope you can find something that works.

Hey Brettm!
You could try this powder from ProCare Health. I get my multi from there. Great products and customer service.

I am still pre surgery... Come on July 15th but this is what I have ordered for my calcium citrate. It mixes in with my water
Everything else I bought is chewable but I thought this would be a nice change! And the price isn't bad either.
I sent the info to my nut and he approved it.
