Protein, and Fibre, and Carbs....oh my!

I think that medical advice to listen to our bodies and not count calories, carbs, and protein is horrible, horrible advice. I don't think it will contribute to long term advice, at all.

Listening to our bodies got us all to morbid obesity. Ignoring my body and counting calories has maintained my success for 4 years now.

Our nutritionist recommends that we eat plenty of foods with fiber.  Not only does it satiate you, it keeps you regular (as long as you are drinking enough water).  In general I eat lots of fruit, some veggies daily, and often have potatoes or quinoa. My main source of protein is beans, which are high in fiber & carbs (fiber IS a carb, by the way.  The carbs everyone needs to avoid are simple sugars & refined flour).

 

If we could listen to our bodies successfully, we wouldn't have gotten fat and needed radical surgery.

You are losing weight now because you are still in the malabsorption phase.  A few years down the road, you will find that your ridiculous intake of carbs and "fiber" will undo everything you got done.  Fruit is sugar.  Veggies are sugar.  Prunes are sugar.  Potatoes are sugar.  Quinoa is sugar.  Sugar is carbs.  Simple, refined, complex, fructose, lactose... doesn't matter.... all carbs... all of it. 

And if you wait for test results to show if you are deficient in something, you risk permanent nerve, bone and muscle damage.

I am not criticizing you btw... I am criticizing your nutritionist, who is an idiot and obviously has not studied ASMBS post-surgery dietary guidelines.
