Carb Counting?
I am a little over 6 weeks out and NUT moved me to 800 calories a day, and to increase fats if needed.
I am getting in about 100 grams a day of Protein, and 50 grams of carbs, 25 grams fat a day.
My NUT did not indicate the amount of carbs to insure I continue to lose at optimum levels.
I am ramping up my daily gym workouts, as well as getting back on the bike, so I need complex carbs for energy, but do not want to over do it.
Any direction, or is this mostly an individual thing, and why NUT did not give any direction?

some programs are ultra-low carb (e.g., 40 or under), some are moderately low carb. Mine is one of the latter. I was never given a carb limit, either, but I keep mine under 100 - and it's usually under 80 (at 13 months out...). I'm guessing with the amount of protein we have to get in, doubled with the stomach restriction and calorie ranges, it's not that difficult to stay moderately low carb, so they don't worry about it too much that early out. At least those dietitians who push a moderately low carb plan don't.

You do not need carbs for energy, or to fuel your workouts. You have lots and lots of energy stored as fat. The point of all this is to burn that fat, and that's all the energy you need. Every calorie you eat for "fuel" is one fewer calorie you'll burn in your weight loss.

I rarely go over 50 carbs a day, nearly 5 years after surgery. Occasionally if it's a busy week of biking, hiking etc I'll hit 100 (doesn't everyone reward a good bike ride with a cookie? No? Grrrr....)
I don't know about everyone else, but high healthy fats, high protein and low carb works for me. I haven't counted a single calorie in 5 years.

50 carbs is a healthy number for weight loss. I never counted carbs per se, but always made sure individual items weren't too high. Whenever I have 'spot-checked' myself on MFP I am always around 50. Obviously occasionally higher.... but 50 is a good number not to shoot to go over.
