Oh my aching eyes!!!

So I am now 6 weeks post op. I'm down 35.5 pounds, and pretty pleased with where I'm going.

I'm having the hardest time though, with my eyes! They seem to think my little pouch can handle so much more! I don't over eat, but I plan my meals with much bigger ideas in mind. For some reason, a meal isn't a meal, to my brain, if there's only one thing on the plate.

I went to the chinese restaurant in town (1 of only 4 places to eat in our little town) intending on getting wonton soup. They have the best around, even in the city! But... I really wanted scallops... so I ended up with the sauteed scallop dinner... it comes with wonton soup too you know... so I get home, measure out two scallops, and 1/4C of soup... I didn't even eat all of that. Next day I have more soup, another scallop... full. But I still have this huge container filled with scallops/veggies/rice/eggroll! I ended up pawning it off on my son, thank goodness someone would eat it.

I order like I used to eat... I cook things thinking I'm going to have more than I actually do. (Thank goodness for teenage kids).

I'm not overeating, I'm measuring, and I'm satisfied after I eat. I rarely even finish everything I've measure out...

But my eyes (and brain) insist on preparing for a gourmet feast!

My eyes are truly so much bigger than my stomach now! LOL

This was a huge issue for me right after surgery.  I cooked nearly every night before surgery, and i cooked large meals.  I had to learn to scale back on what I cooked over time, and it led to a lot of wasted food, but I have the hang of it now.  I cook for a family of 4, my hubby and my two kids ages 16 and 2.  I've gotten to the point where I will only cook a little and if it's not enough they can add a snack later on.  I don't worry about running out of food, we will not starve.

I still end up throwing out a lot of food, which makes me sad, but I'd rather waste a little and be healthy than feel like I have to eat it all and be sick and fat again.

It does get easier. I still make huge pots of food and freeze the rest.

I've given up on freezing stuff, it's all just sitting in the freezer still.  The only thing that I've ever reheated from frozen is chili.

I have a slab of ribs in my fridge that my hubby cooked last Thursday.  My oldest is on a trip,  my hubby has been traveling so much and I refuse to eat them because the calories are too high, lol. Hubby comes home tonight,  so either he eats them tonight or they are getting tossed.

I totally get that. I have frozen stuff that is still in my freezer. Chili and stews are the one thing that gets eaten after being frozen.

You are not alone! I'm guilty almost every time we eat out, or especially if I go out to lunch alone during my workday. I'm hoping eventually my brain will catch up.

I remember being really hungry one day a month or so after surgery, I came in and made myself a turkey burger. I ate like a quarter of it and sitting there and being mad I couldn't eat more.....

I will roast a whole chicken in instant pot, divvy it up and put in freezer in manageble sizes. Like ziplock bags- then i can take out one and that lasts a couple meals for me. DH really only eats one 'real' meal a day so I end up with all the leftovers

bought a pound and half sirloin and made day before last- ive had 3 meals so far, DH had the equivelent of 2 meals, and I still have more...

I would have frozen those scallops in little packs of two, but would pass on the wonton soup (still no carbs like noodles for me).

I still cook whole chickens, even though there is no way I can eat it before it goes bad.  I just like the taste better than chicken pieces.  I know.  I don't understand it either.  Stupid brain.  Anyway, after a couple of days, I take what is left of the chicken and make stock out of it, and then freeze the stock.  That way I have plenty on hand for soups, chilis and other stuff.  You can never have too much homemade chicken stock, and it smells heavenly while it is simmering on the stove.
