Bummed - Injured at 5 weeks Post-Op

I am really really bummed right now.  I haven't lost as much as I have wanted to and I have been slowly increasing my walking so I could get more exercise.  I haven't been cleared yet for anything more than walking at this point.

Tuesday out of no where my ankle starts hurting.  I didn't twist it, trip, nothing.  It has gotten worse and worse to the point that I can barely walk on it now.

I went to an urgent care and they did an x-ray and nothing is broken.  So, they suggested crutches when I walk, rest and ice.  If it isn't better by Monday - I should make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor.

I am finally feeling good enough that I can bend and move around and now I once again have to sit on the couch.  I'm never going to lose weight by sitting my butt on this couch.  So I am completely upset and bummed because I haven't lost what my goals were and now I have to sit for an unknown amount of time.  This time is the sweet spot and I'm wasting it by sitting on the couch when I could be walking and exercising and losing more weight.  Hoping it is just a sprain and I don't need surgery on this ankle again.  :(

Weight loss is 90% diet. You will lose weight as long as you stick to the plan. It sucks you are hurt, but this will not derail your loss unless you let it.

Don't worry about the exercise. It's great for a lot of things, but losing weight isn't one of them. It's all about how much you eat.

Weigh your food, and keep a really, really accurate food log. If you keep your calories low, you'll still lose everything you want.

Agree with Deanna, exercise is good for your health and heart- and helps little with weight loss.

just take it easy and once you heal up you can get back to it.

I had three different foot surgeries, each requiring me to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks. By carefully watching, measuring and tracking what I was eating I was able to maintain my 150 plus poundS of weight loss. Just don't let the stress and frustration of this turn you to mindless eating. Keep a close eye on your intake and you will do just fine! And I'm not saying you don't need exercise when you can. I walk and ride my exercise bike everyday because I sleep better and feel healthier and stronger,it just doesn't really help that much with weight loss.

It may be old injury that wants to be remembered.

Using ice pads for 20 min may really help.  Goodle ankle exercises to increase mobilty.

When I hurt my ankle - Ibought a few ankle braces (CVS - Wal-Mart - Walgreen)  and use some to help stabiliazing my foot. I used some soft while sleeping and with more support when I was walking during the day.
