Post surgery 9 yrs. & gaining weight "help"
I had my surgery sept. 2008. It took me 3 years to loose my weight. I went from 393 lbs. to 160 at my lowest. I had no problems until 2 yrs. ago. I've had a lot of digestive problems. I am needing help, support in getting back on track! My weight is now 207 lbs. I am dealing a lot with excess gas. It's made my stomach stretch. Any feed back please.
All is not lost and you can come back from this! Mine was in 2012 and I'm concerned about some recent weight gain myself. We need to go back to the very basics: small portions, protein first, etc. What are your digestive problems, if you don't mind sharing? You are still almost 200lbs down, which is AMAZING!! You're doing great! Would you mind sharing your general meal plan?
The stomach stretches, but for us, it's mostly about the swelling finally reducing and potentially stretching the stoma they've created for us. Even then, all things are possible. Are you feeling hungry? Sargento now has these bags of cheese nips. 20 cals a piece. I use them to stave off food cravings and at night before bed (I have reactive hypoglycemia so I need a snack before bed). Max 3-5 or so at night, but they help a lot and they have lots of different flavors.
Gas, oh do I understand that! I'm very gassy. I find Gas-X, either the pills or dissolvable strips, are great. We can be myfitnesspal friends if that would help. You've got this! :)
Thanks et_alia, it would be helpful to me to have a friend on myfittnesspal! I have trouble swallowing, GERD, motility disorder and IBS. I am on several medicines. With all the replies I need to watch my portion and just eat protein maybe that will curb my weight some. I do have motivation trouble in the exercise department. I have many physical problems stemming from being fat &From the gastric bypass. Thanks for your reply. Olive1990
I had RNY in January 2012 and I've had about 30lbs of regain from my lowest weight. I seem to be plateauing at this weight, so I am working on maintaining this weight rather than fighting to get down to my lowest weight. Even with the regain, I am still within my healthy BMI, so I think this weight is fine. It took me a while to realize that life long success is going to mean living well...eating and exercising well every single day, and not just about a number on the scale. Maybe your body wants to be at a certain weight? How did you have the regain? What habits changed in the eating and exercising area? If you are still living a good lifestyle and your weight seems to be plateauing, maybe just focus on no more regain and maintaining this weight for the long term, rather than dieting down to the lowest weight?
I was pretty worried when I noticed that I could eat a lot more as each year passed after surgery. I am not focusing on veggies first and then protein, as a means to fill myself up. I like Dr. Weiner from A Pound of Cure website. He has lots of interesting youtube videos. I also like Dr. Furhman's Eat to Live and Nutritarian programs. Both of these programs emphasize a life long diet of nutrient dense, low calorie whole foods. Eating unprocessed, whole foods definitely allows you to eat more and feel satisfied on less calories and with more nutrition.
Digestive problems, weight gain, and especially excessive gas are exactly what would happen with too many simple carbs. You need to stick to dense protein, and ditch the carbs.
Track your food for a while. Weigh every bite you eat, and log it all. You'll see what you need to do, and get yourself on track.
