Hi all,
My RNY is scheduled for June 28th -- right around the corner. I am generally a pretty active person and have lots of energy. I have two little ones that I am constantly entertaining : ). I am wondering how I will be feeling in those first few weeks post-op. What level of activity will I be able to engage in with my 2-year-old and 4-year-old?

I am 8 days post op and can tell you that moving is a very important part of heeling. I have been out walking the neighborhood at least once or twice everyday. But that's about the extent of it. My back will start to hurt if I'm up and about to long. I get tired pretty easy. My husband and I went to the grocery store last night and by the time we got to the check out I had to leave him and go sit in the car. My body was really starting to hurt. Bending over if I drop something on the floor doesn't happen. Everyday is better then the previous day. For your sake I really hope you have a great support system to help you with the kids. They won't understand that they can't just jump on you. Good luck on your journey.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My husband, mom, and sister will all be pitching in to help with the girls after my surgery. Are you able to drive around on your own. I really would like to attend my dad's retirement celebration which will occur about 4 days after I leave the hospital. My husband won't be able to go, and the drive is about 1hr 15 min one way. I will have plenty of help with the girls once I get to my parents house. Is it too much for me to drive myself that far 6-days post op (4-days out of hospital)?
Thank you so much for your help!

I had surgery on Thursday and drove around town the following Wednesday. I didn't have a problem in the car but I didn't drive that long. Remember you can't lift anything and believe me you don't want to try lifting anything. I almost forgot that rule yesterday and tried to lift 2 reams of paper and that hurt. I told my husband I need to clean out my purse cause it's too heavy for me right now. If there is anyway your mom or dad could come get you guys I would do that. That just seems like a long drive that close to surgery. I drive like a grandma right now cause I don't want to have to make any sudden moves.

I think I'll need to clean out my purse, too! Mine is really heavy. I'm starting to prepare my girls now for when mommy can't pick them up. My 4-year-old understands this better than my 2-year-old of course. The good thing is that they will have grammy and auntie there to pick them up and carry them. I'll stick to the sit-down cuddling.
Thanks so much for your help!

four days after leaving the hospital, you will likely still be taking narcotic pain killers. Get stopped and it is an automatic DUI. You can't legally drive until no narcotics for 24hrs

hollykim - I hadn't thought of that. That is a good point. I will make arrangements for my parents to pick up me and my girls.
