My Quest bar quest.
I consider protein bars emergency food. Quest bars are 190 calories,20 gms of protein, and most of the fiber needed for the day. (tracking food I never get close to getting enough fiber in my diet).
I eat them when I'm crashing. I eat them when I don't have the energy to cook something. I eat them because they work in my plan. YMMV. I can not eat them fast. It takes some work to get one down for me. It's also the hardest food in the world to practice the no fluids until 30 minutes after you eat. They are not a delicious treat for me..they are never going to be a binge food for me. What they will stop is from pulling into a drive thru or help me when I'm shaking after swimming.
I got the variety pack on Amazon.
Most surprised by the banana nut flavor. I liked all the fruit ones except white chocolate raspberry which was the only one I couldn't eat.
The ones that look like Reese's peanut butter cups were just vile. If I think hard enough I can recall the taste..Yuck.
The cookie ones are all okay. Chocolate chip being my favorite and most accessible flavor.
I like that they can live in the car and not die.
I think there are millions of better things to eat but I like having these in my arsenal.

I was scared of them after I felt icky after eating half a bar sometime between my 1st and 2nd year. I had one left over ( it was still good! Frankenfood! ) and decided to try half of it. I was fine. It didn't make me feel bad at all. Damn it. I've had a few since then. The cookies and cream flavor is my favorite.
There were some protein bars from a company named ANSI. I LOVED them. They were "gourmet cheesecake" bars; they had chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake , peanut butter chocolate chip cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake. ( The strawberry was yucky. I spit it out. ) Much to my dismay, they took them off the market and then "improved" on them. They discontinued the best flavor, and the strawberry, and now all bars have more calories. Stupid heads.

Oh I enjoy them. Kinda.
It's a food that works in a lot of different ways. I was thinking today about this post and one of things I really like is you have to eat them slow. I've been fast sliding carbs in my body and I'm really working on not doing that. The slowness makes it more mindful.
Also I like what it looks like when I put it in my log.
I used to dump on Quest bars and get RH. Or just get RH.
I could not understand that. But lots of reading, research, etc etc...
I learned that if you have bacteria in your small intestine, good or bad...or if you take probiotics with food...the "so called fiber" in quest bars are food for the bacteria. The bacteria turn the "so called fiber" into simple sugars + gas. So not only I was getting sugar from the product "called fiber", but also lots of gas. The sugars were absorbed to my blood causing blood sugar spike and insulin spike, that then caused rapid BS drop -RH.
So..if you react to sugar alcohols - it may mean your gut bacteria are very active and you may confer some of the "so called fiber" into sugars. How would you know it - test your blood sugar every 10 min after eating the food with "that fiber" ...
BTW- Quest company changed what "fiber" they use. The most current bars are not suppose to cause severe BS increase. I tried 2 of the...(experiment) and they Sid not affect me as much as the old version did..but they still afected my BS enough. It means that my gut bacteria are very good in digesting "fiber"...

I tried Quest bars for first time for my Pre-Op diet, and thought they were not too bad. Yes, not a good as the Snickers, but for spot use and emergency use when I am away from home and stuck with no other good choices, I can eat them OK.
Glad they are not like regular high fat and sugar bars, that would kick in my sweet tooth too much.
