1 wk post surgery and a question

Had my gastric bypass last week was in the hospital for 2 nights and had no real problems there other then some pain issues.   Been able to drink enough fluids and all that and have lost 6 pounds from my preop physical so far.   The issue I had is that I have eaten a couple of things (a half a cracker and a few noodles when I was straining my chicken noodle soup for the broth).   It didn't make me sick really, just feeling somewhat bloated.   But the question I have is that I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 more weeks and then on just pureed food.   If I feel fine have I affected anything by having even this little bit of solid food when I am not supposed to yet?

Other then that I have found that liquid medications suck.

Its not something I really want to talk to my surgeon about as I am kinda embarrassed so I hope you all here can give me any info and all that.

Thanks

Brett

You can do serious damage by eating solid food before your surgeon's plan tells you to.  The nerves in your stomach have been cut and you can not feel the "full sensation" yet.  It may be months before you do "feel" real restriction.  Because of this, you could easily over eat and rupture your suture line.  People have died from ruptured suture lines.  There is a reason your surgeon progresses your food slowly.  You need to let the new stomach heal before you try to eat.  FOLLOW YOUR PLAN TO THE LETTER!  Measure EVERYTHING you put in your mouth.

Ditto what Rocky said. Even though it sucks, the liquid phase serves a serious purpose while you heal. In the big picture of your WL journey a few weeks is a blip on the radar. Promise.

Try chewable meds and vitamins or patches at this point. May be more tolerable for you.

Oh please listen to their advice. My dr office advances us pretty quickly through phases and even he stressed to not take in ANYTHING  but liquid while on liquids ... Even if you didn't rupture your staple line you could possibly get food particles in your staple line and they could fester. Even by the time you pass through full liquids and then Puree ..... You really need to be making sure you leave no chunks. Allow your body to heal well. It's just not worth it !
