STRESS!
I am sorry for your loss! We can lose or gain weight with stress. It just depends on the person/situation. When my Dad was very ill and wasting away, I lost 70 lbs in 7 mos. My Mom was dx with cancer 15 mos after my Dad passed away and died 6 mos after that. I lost them within 21 mos of each other. I gained weight with my Mom's illness and death (May 2015) I am still trying to lose the regain, but its so much harder this far out. Little things that stress me out throw me into emotional eating and that is something I am trying to cope with. I have gone back to meal planning and logging my foods, it does help. It is a slower process now, than when I was newly post op. I know my tool still works and I just have to get back on track.
You have done well losing half of your 9 lb gain and I am sure you will lose the rest. Just try to refocus if you can and when you feel the stress kicking in.
Good luck!

Losing a pet is so hard. I gained a lot of weight when I lost my Yorke. Like you, I had my OH family who allowed me to share and they offered great support.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet Buffy. Hugs to you. ..
