Target Carbohydrates Per Day?
It sounds like we have the same surgeon.
I don't track macros (protein, fat, or carbohydrates) beyond ensuring I hit 60 g/d of protein. I just focus on whole foods, mostly plants, and foods that are low in added sugar and added fat. If you eat foods that are low in calorie density then it's pretty much impossible to overeat -- you get full long before you get fat.
That's the way of eating that works for me.
My surgeon is the same, count protein, count fluids...that is it. I do weigh and measure my protein when I am home... obviously guesstimate when I am out. Do I consider the carbs in an individual item I am eating? yes, of course. But I don't count a tally of carbs for the day. My surgeon's Mantra is: Protein first, then veggies and then if you have enough room fruit then carbs. He never says no carbs, just put them at the end of the list. When losing I had a starchy carb occasionally, maybe once a week or so. I love toast. Now if I have them, I don't do it everyday or try not more than once a day...general guidelines to myself. :)
I don't do My Fitness Pal on a regular basis, because it made me too obsessive...and I would tend to eat things just because I hadn't reached my limit, instead of listening to my body. I will do an occasional 'spot check' I call them, just to see what I am doing...
I do weigh myself every day...that is my accountability. You can't get crazy over fluctuations, but I feel it keeps me honest. Makes me constantly evaluate what I am doing if I don't like what I am seeing....
