Made it home
Had to stay an extra day at the hospital due to nausea and not being able to take in fluids. Got a shower this morning and feel so much better. Fluids are going ok, but I can already see that it will be a challenge to stay hydrated. Any tips for getting up from the chair? That's the most painful for me.
Thanks to everyone here for their great advice and encouragement!

Glad you're home and feeling better. :)
Getting out of bed and out of chairs was a challenge for me too. I tried to focus on using my arms and legs to lift me up. Try not to use your core muscles. It takes practice but you'll be used to it in a couple of days. I think it was about the 3 week mark before I could use any ab muscles without cringing in pain.
Get well, always be sipping!!

Welcome home! and welcome to the Loser's Bench :)
My brother had given me a cane he used for his knee surgery, and having something to steady myself on, helped...not that I walked with it. Whatever you are sitting in make sure it has arms so you have something to push off of. The first 2 days home I actually brought my outdoor anti-gravity lounge chair into the living room. Works like a recliner, being I didn't have one...it worked. also hold a pillow on your stomach as you try to get up, it might help.
Fluids are the most important and it is hard at this stage...so just keep plugging along. you can never have too much. What helped me with my ongoing nausea is Peppermint tic tacs. I would bite them, and just let them dissolve in my mouth. They really helped. You also might want to flavor your water, plain water can be more nauseating when you are already feeling that way.

I'm about 2 weeks out and really struggled with nausea as well. Chewable gravol helped and allowed me to stomach some full fluids. I'm still struggling with nausea off and on but here are things that helped me get fluids in: sugar free freezies and Popsicles (huge saviours for me), caffeine free herbal tea (warm not hot), water and ice and a squirt of grape sugar free koolaid flavouring blended to slushie consistency in magic bullet (I can only stomach grape which was my least fav pre op), chicken broth.
I hope this helps - good luck!! Congrats!!
