itching - tell me I'm not alone!
Since surgery I have been itching all the time, mainly my hands and feet, but my arms and legs and stomach as well. Early on I thought maybe my skin was just dry from being dehydrated. Now I am drinking a lot every day and my skin is definitely not dry, so what could it be???? It's driving me insane!

Hi Heather, I am 2.6 years out from surgery and I still itch. I drink a ton of liquids, I use a good body cream daily, and I eat good "fats". I swear I wake up every day and I start to scratch, my stomach, and my legs are the worst. I was not itchy pre surgery so I have no clue really. I think its just one of those weird side effects post surgery.

Me too. I understand that my belly itching (teehee!) may just be the incisions healing, but with me, my FEET are bad. I tore up my left one without realizing it one night

Your skin sheds millions of cells every day. With rapid weight loss your skin gets behind on shedding those dead cells. Old dead cells build up on the skin surface and get itchy. Most of us try to treat with creams. That causes a buildup similar to pie dough when the oils mix with the dead skin cells.
The answer is to stop the oils and use an exfoliating cleanser and a loofah, bath brush, or dry cloth to get off as much old cells as possible off. Dry brushing before your bath or shower is also excellent. Do not follow-up with cream or lotion. It can take a few treatments, but the itching will go away and the new healthy skin that is now exposed will be glowing.
