Non-food birthday perks
on 6/2/16 8:36 pm
since going around town to all the restaurants for birthday perks like free desserts, donuts, etc is out of the question from this point forward---let me ask this:
do you know of any non-food perks such as percentage off, free items, etc?
how do you celebrate birthdays now without food? What works for you?
this is my first postop birthday, I feel like I have a new life and it's more than enough of a birthday gift to me to get to live another year. I am the thinnest and healthiest I've ever been, and my RNY is my gift to myself for 2016!

You answered your own question. Your RNY is your gift to yourself. Why do you need any other recognition?
Head to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or Savers and buy a new wardrobe. That's discount enough for me!

I am not a doctor, but I play one at work.
It is always a dessert or appetizer or something like that :(
Sephora gives you a free makeup or skin care little gift during the month of your birthday http://www.sephora.com/about-beauty-insider
Here's a few ideas for gifts: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2013/05/gift- ideas-for-weight-loss-surgery-post.html and I still do a few fun food things too: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2015/06/birth day-treats-post-weight-loss-surgery.html
But yep... WLS was the BEST GIFT EVER.
If you have a Sephora around, they will give you a free gift on your birthday, you just have to sign up. Usually it's a lip gloss or sample stuff like mascara and perfume.
Kohls will also send you a gift card for your birthday, not sure if you have to have their credit card, or if you just have to sign up for emails...
And I did a quick search and found this: http://www.allyou.com/free-on-birthday
I might have to go sign up for all of those!

YES - here are my favs - don;t know if you are close to either. I hope you are. I can't wait for sme more posters' ideas - my b-day is tomorrow.
1- ULTA will give you a FREE BENEFIT eyebrow do-over. I love this one.
2 - DSW shoe store gives you a $5 off coupon
I don't know how long before your b'day you need to sign up.
Maybe you can sign-up on line.
Some presents you will have to give yourself - like your RNY and a weekend camping at an International Dark Sky Park - I'm packed and waiting for the rain to stop. (There are no bright city lights within several hundred miles and the Milky Way can cast your shadow - when there are no clouds. )
Happy Birthday - you have 365 more days to plan next years!
PS When I turned 30, I decided to do 30 things I never did before. #1 on my list-get my car washed at the car wash!! Anyway, have loads of fun!!

If we find someone whose b'day is June 5th, we can win at gin rummy.
I know what you meant with the first part of your post - when you've lost 140 pounds -well, everyday is a celebration.

Today - June 8 - is my birthday. I'm 7+ years out from my RNY. I had surgery two weeks ago for small bowel resection so I'm on liquids and purees. I'm good with that.
I'm working today and am helping at Vacation Bible School tonight - so hubby is taking me to Starbucks and I'm getting a Venti London Fog latte. It is Earl Grey tea and I ask for sugar free vanilla syrup (5 pumps) and skim milk. I like it hot. The only calories are from the skim milk and there is 8-10 grams protein.
I'm ok with not having food as a treat on my birthday - I did that for years and was morbidly obese - won't go back there again.
Penny
Happy birthday!
You're right. Food as a treat is the past, not the future.
