Damn you, Twinkie gods!!!!
I don't think I've had a Twinkie in 10 years. Even when I was morbidly obese, they just weren't really on my radar.
But my son got a box of them today (red, white and blue no less) for his 18th birthday. "Ooooh" says I, and I grab one... figuring I've been up since 6 this morning moving bricks, brush and railroad ties out of my backyard and I more than earned it.
I was so excited as I contemplated my childhood memories and lifted that spongy log of cream-filled goodness up to my quivering, expectant lips.
Blergh! Here dog, catch!
Ugh. When they get so disgusting? We've been talking a lot lately on the forum about how sweet foods taste different after you don't have them for a long time. But I think it's more than that. I think Hostess is perpetrating a fraud on the public when they make my poor son think this is the same Twinkie I ate as a kid! I feel like I need to bleach my stomach...

PS: Don't try this at home, kids. I am nearly 5 years out and almost never go over 50-100 carbs a day. I also have reactive hypoglycemia and popped a few pieces of cheese after this. A Twinkie is 43g of carbs, including 29g sugar. Don't take my occasional indulgence as advice or permission to indulge yourself unless you know your body pretty well...

Oh and in the interest of way TMI.... the twinkie just left my body in a lovely fashion. I didn't look closely to see if it was red, white and blue.... but I am sure it was a very patriotic poo...

Twinkies don't have Gods. They are strictly manufactured straight from hell.

Great and informative story! LOL
I loved Twinkies pre surgery, never ate them a lot, Birthday Cake is what got my motor running pre surgery and not just a slice, I worked hard at polishing a whole cake off in one sitting!!!
Too bad though, Patriotic Twinkie sounds wonderful HA HA HA
