Pureed/soft food

I'm going to call my nut tomorrow but thought I would run this by you all.

I'm on Pureed and soft foods. I am sick sick sick of ricotta and cottage cheese and yogurt and protein drinks. So last night at my mom's house I Pureed some roast beef with gravy, ate slowly and it was yummy. Today, I ate a small piece of leftover roast and chewed it and chewed it to a pureed texture.

So what's the difference?

I don't think there is a difference at all. Just my opinion.

it can't really be chewed to a puréed texture. Try purring some and the chew some and compare what they look like

Follow your plan. It's only been 2 weeks since you had surgery. You need to develop new habits NOW, while it's relatively easy. It will get a LOT harder down the road.

Making up your own plan got you to morbid obesity. Try sticking with the plan you were given, and don't try to make your own.

Ok so I get your point. Wth did I do all of this for if I won't follow the rules, right?

Here's the problem as I thought about it: I'm trying to eat low carb/high protein and Pureed food and that really limits me to a few things.

My nut's plan says to be pureeing Mac and cheese and cream soups which are definitely not low carb. However, these would have the flavor I'm craving. Should I put the low carb thing aside and eat the carby stuff that has the flavor I want, while continuing with protein powder? Or do I try to stick to the low carb thing?

I've eaten paleo on and off for years so I get the high protein diet. Just having some trouble reconciling it with Pureed food.

I ate the carby stuff at your stage, but I only really ate it because I didn't know any better at that time.  I'd like to think that I'd go back and eat lower carb early out and that I'd be closer to goal now, but I honestly can't say.  I ate carby and didn't track my intake religiously until about 2.5 to 3 months post op.  I still lost a lot of weight, but I'll never know if I could have lost more.

But how about this for an alternative... instead of mac and cheese, steam some cauliflower and use that as a base instead of pasta.  yeah, it's got carbs, but it's not nearly as carby as the pasta would be.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Thanks for your answer. I am tracking on myfitnesspal and today I  pureed some cream soup and tonight I'll purée my family's stir fry. I'll make up the protein with shakes. Here's the thing though: even with the carby stuff like rice or cream soup, I'm still under 50 carbs for the day simply because I'm eating such tiny amounts. I bet the same was true for you early on, so maybe you were eating low carb at the beginning?

While I adore the handsome and charming Grim and almost always hang on his every (nekkid, pantless) word... I have one disagreement...

Every time I read about someone eating yogurt early, I cringe.  There is ton of sugar in yogurt, even the "low sugar" "low fat" type.

While I don't suggest rushing into anything, if you have a blender, blend baby!  And that includes, IMHO, roast!  Then again, I am not your doctor, I just play one on TV :)

From what Ive read while reseaching, you can puree most foods in this stage as long as enough liquid is added like broth. I have done serious research on the puree stage bc I was worried when my surgeon said I won't be having one. He wants me to skip puree and go straight to soft foods. He said and I quote, "There isnt much difference in pureeing and chewing if you chew like we want you. It needs to be about a pureed consistency before you swallow." Bu****ch what you're doing. Grim is right we gotta break these old habits now.Anyway, if it felt fine, it probably was, but dont try too many new things too quickly. That will cause you to be confused if one of the foods makes you feel bad and you don't know which!
