Pain medication problems

I suffer many many chronic pain problems... I have taken pain meds for a very very long time. My dr keeps trying to get me to try long acting medications but the surgeon who did my RNY told me never to take a long acting as I won't break it down and digest it. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

I'm only 13 days out but my psych doc gave me the ok to try extended release versions of my antidepressants and so far so good. If they weren't working, I would definitely know by now.

We tried one dose of morphine long acting. I swear it was as if I'd taken water

What my doctor told me was that because long-acting medications don't go through all of the small intestine, all the medication is dumped into your system at once. Therefore, the short acting forms have to be used.

I have not been able to take extended release meds since my surgery several years ago. You just don't get the full effect...
