Ack! I'm hungry

Day 7 out for me. I've loved the total disinterest in food I've had this week. My daughter's graduation party was yesterday and there were tons of goodies that don't even tempt me.

But today, food sounds good. It's not like I feel like I want a ton of food, but just a little bite of this or that would be nice.  On Thursday I move to soft foods and I just sent my daughter to the store for some soft foods.

I'm getting fluids in. Easily up to 64 oz today. My dh says I'm hungry because I've been on liquids for two weeks. Ever the sensible guy, lol.

More than likely this is "head hunger" your so used to eating your mind hasn't caught up with your body changes.  This is a hard time, trust me we can all relate however this is your time to make your will power work for you.  You can totally do this!  Remember you didn't rearrange your entire insides just to go back to old habits.  You got this!

It's not like hunger pangs or my stomach growling. (Do pouches growl?)

It is definitely in my head. It changed from no appetite to the smells of my family's food smelling good. It's probably a combination of head hunger and my body telling me that food sounds good again.

Tomorrow is 7 days for me. I have definitely seen an increase in foods being more 'appealing', and feeling definite hunger (head hunger, but it still feels like hunger. My guts are making a TON of noise, but I haven't had a BM yet since Tuesday that was triggered by a suppository the nurse gave me. I've had MOM for two days, and then Miralax twice. I just took 2 dulcolax tablets. I really hope that gets me going LOL)

So back to food. My friend, who is a barbaric nurse, told me that the broth in Hot and Sour soup counted during this stage. Last night my daughter went and picked me up an order. Once I strained it, I measured out 4 oz, and sat down at the table with my pretty small bowl I bought at Target, a napkin, and a spoon, and I had my soup...  I think it was the best thing I've tasted in a long long time LOLOL

I am also having another 4 ounces this evening. Its very filling, and I may not even make the entire 4 ounces this time, but oh so tasty!

So check with your doctor and see if it's something you can have until we get to the puréed stage!

My daughter made chicken soup last night and I strained out 8 oz. and it was so delicious! Thanks for the idea.

I was the same way... I thought oh no everything looks so good! I just stuck to my plan and by this week ( day 18 ) I'm back to only eating because I know it's time for a meal and I need to get the calories in. I'm sure we will always be tempted by certain social events or our familiar snackies but it'll hopefully be easier when your able to eat real food, then you can have your small fill of appropriate foods that'll fill you up and do your body good.

I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out. It's not that I get "hungry" so much that I want FLAVOR. I've found that punching up the flavor of the foods I'm allowed to eat helps - for instance;

I made cauliflower pizza waffles and a cauliflower pizza crust, with a little extra garlic powder in addition to other spices. That helped a lot, and I am not craving pizza anymore. Added extra garlic powder to the sugar free pizza sauce I made too.

Early on, I added chicken flavored protein to my broth and my mashed potatoes - gave them a great "punch" and satisfied that urge for flavor.

Egg salad with light mayo, mustard, onion powder, celery salt, black pepper, paprika and a little bit of the juice from a jar of sweet relish.

Tuna salad with light mayo, mustard, old bay, lemon juice and onion powder.

I added Laughing Cow style Garlic & Herb cheese wedges this weekend and paired them with both pretzel crackers one day and wheat crackers the other.

I'm onto the soft foods stage now and just like the pureed stage, once I've eaten a bit of whatever flavor food I was craving, I am "over it" and find I don't want to eat at all. So, that makes it easier to just eat at assigned times, though I find myself eating the foods I was allowed in Stage 2 mostly, though I'm trying to add variety.

Tonight I'm going to try some salmon, though I haven't quite decided how to cook it. I'm going to save some for tomorrow morning though because I saw a recipe involving salmon, eggs and havarti (my fave cheese) that I'd like to try.

Yes! I want flavor. And the sweet protein shakes are not doing it for me in this liquid stage. My nut told me to drink V8 to keep sodium and potassium up and it tastes so good. 

Yesterday when my family had pizza it smelled good and I really just wanted a bite for the flavor.

Thanks for the tips on adding flavor.
