Stomach Binder?
Hi Everyone!!
I came across something that showed people receive abdominal binders from the hospital. Almost like a corset-type deal. I really think this would help me, but I wasn't given one and I do not recall anyone mentioning it in any of the support groups I attended in my program.
I did a search through the forums, but most people I found got it through their hospital. Has anyone purchased one on their own? If so, where did you get it from?
I found this one from Amazon that I think I may try: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QLYZ1DK/ref=ox_sc_act_ti tle_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3HG8DDA62KJ2X
I think the support will help a lot because it really feels like my stomach is "spilling over" and some of the pain comes from this pulling away sensation. Plus I've read it helps with side sleepers. Most of my fat is around my stomach, so I really am looking into this asap!
Thanks everyone!!!!

Surgery - RNY 5/17/16
I asked the floor nurse why I was given a binder to wear for six weeks after WLS. She said, "the binders helps prevent hernias, supports the gut, and feels good like a security blanket." I wore it for four weeks finding the binder helping out most when going from sitting to standing, coughing, and the like. Cheap "insurance." Go for it, SubiGal.
Binders used to be routine after any abdominal surgery. Now they are rarely offered because of cost cutting by the hospitals. I bought my own for about $25 at the medical store and wore it for about a month after surgery. Insurance ended up reimbursing me for it.
It is one of the smartest things you can do for yourself. You will have less chance of back pain and just feel more comfortable all day long.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
We put one on every patient that has an open procedure to assist in support and prevention of hernias . However laparoscopic patients do not receive one . This is our surgery department policy so I'm not sure if it varies. I happen to have one at home so I put it on for support after my surgery but found it caused more discomfort than anything .

Thanks for the link!
I'm "sloshy" now, and often have to hold my abdomen when transitioning. I want to get to work weeding the yard, but bending over forces my innards to feel like they have no support.
Until I can get those muscles tightened up, I am going to buy one! I was looking for something similar over the weekend, and am so happy to have found this thread!
