I use Synthrax Nectar 23 grams whey isolate protein, 1 scoop with 16 oz of fluids.  They have fuzzy navel, strawberry kiwi,  roadside lemonade, lemon tea, and a couple other juice based protein powder drinks(you can find the different flavors on Amazon).  To me they are kind of bland, so instead of mixing with plain water I mix it with crystal light or other similar flavored packets that are sugar free and it goes down great.  I buy it from Vitamin Shoppe, but they only have a few select flavors.

What baffles me is the fact that before surgery I don't think any of us really measured our daily intake of protein. I'm pretty sure most of the worlds population don't meet their daily requirement of protein and/or vitamins & minirals every single day.. Yet most of the population are not in a bad health.. I know my labs were always excellent in terms of vitamins, minerals and protein. So why is measuring protein so important after surgery ?

My daily protein requirement is set at 70-60 grams. My doctor said if I can reach 40 grams that should be good. A healthy adult should consume 46-50 grams of protein per day.. So what am I missing here? What didn't I understand right?

I think some of it has to do with the healing process but beyond that point  I'm not sure.  Perhaps it is because we should be trying to get as many of our calories from proteins as possible so we don't over do it on carbs.

most of us, pre surgery, would regularly eat 2000,3000,4000,5000 calories a day. When you eat that much total foods you get all the requirements necessary.

When you can only eat 600-800 calls a day , you need to track to make sure are covering everything.

Most of the calorie is from fat and carbs.. Not much nutritious or healthy ..

Yet those who eat between 1000-1200 calories per day are still doing pretty well ..

What at I mean to say is that it's impossible for anyone to meet their daily requirements from all nutrients, minerals, vitamins and protein.. So why should people with WLS stick to that for the rest of their lives? I really don't think it will do much harm to just stop counting a year after the surgery and focus on eating a healthy balanced diet? Multi vitamins I can understand because of the risk of malabsorption..

Also I don't understand the need to keep taking 80 or 100 games of protein for the rest of our lives even after losing the weight? Why can't we just consume a normal amount of protein like what a healthy adult should be getting??!!

how do you know most of the calories are from fats and carbs? I ate plenty of meat and " healthy" vegetables along with my fat and carbs.

Most morbidly obese ppl don't even know war a serving is. One can gain weight on too many healthy food too. It is wise to track because it is easy to overeat, as time goes on and the sleeve/ pouch relaxes.

The reason we keep protein high is to make sure our body has plenty to avoid cannibalizing out muscles in the absence of ready available protein.

there are more than one post, every day about ppl who have stopped losing or started gaining and invariably, it is because they started eating too much and stopped or never started tracking

We keep protein high during the weight loss process.. So our body does not break down our muscles.. That I understand.. And I said specifically why can we just focus on eating healthy food a year later.. Or two.. In the maintenance phase.. Instead of counting protein!!  There are many other healthy foods besides protein.

also I still don't understand why does our daily protein intake should stay the same even after losing weight?? A lot of protein can also put a lot of pressure on our kidneys.. The recommended daily intake for protein is 0.6-1 grams for every kg of body weight.. After we lose all the excess weight why doesn't our requirement reduce as well??

even a year or more later the body will break down muscles for protein, if there is not enough for it to use any other way. This even happens to non wls ppl, think, anorexics. This is exactly what happens to them, and eventually their heart is damaged and they die.

We can't eat enough ever to get appropriate nutrients, if we are eating correctly. That is why we supplement what we eat with vitamins, and keep a check on our  levels. lEverything you are quoting is for normies  not us. We are blazing a new trail, and those of us on this site have seen ppl try to be " normal" after surgery and for most it doesn't work.

a lot of protein is not necessarily bad unless one already had kidney disease. Healthy kidneys process it just fine.
