I'm 8 months post op and I work in a fast food restaurant! I'm down 120lbs! I have learned a new way to appreciate food, cook it great and enjoy seeing people eat! Super weird I know. Yes I serve basic burgers and fries but very yummy, beautiful ones, I have put my energy into feeding others instead of myself. Now that I'm in better shape I have started riding a bike to work had no idea how much I could enjoy it, not focused on how hard it is because it's not anymore.

Pre plan and prep as much as you can NOW. Have foods available and ready to grab at a moments notice (especially important during the pre op) so you don't feel compelled to "cheat". I pre made/froze soups. Bought containers for portion control, and got used to tiny spoons and forks, as well as toddler sized plates and bowls (helps to "trick" your mind and slow you down when eating). Buy the HUGE box of sugar free popsicles and lots of 80 cal greek yogurt.

Stay busy! I crocheted close to 100 hats in the first 8 weeks after quitting smoking last fall. Kept my hands moving, and made it a bit easier. I also take in cash, each week, the money I used to spend on cigarettes. It's awesome having money, that I don't have to feel bad about spending or have to consult the budget to see if I can afford little things I've always thought we were too broke to buy.

You can do this!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery.   I am a long timer and this surgery saved my life.  Take it one day at a time, make sure you know your plan for eating, losing and get support.  You came to the right place.

Hi Kelley,

Not sure what the details are of your surgery but I can tell you.....go for it!  I just had surgery on 5/12 and it went awesome!  I was scared out of my mind prior to surgery, and now I have no regrets whatsoever.  So far so good.  Remember to breath deep breaths, your fear will pass.  Many blessings to you.  You will be ok, God's got your back!
