Got my surgery date!! And, a question about recovery...
My surgeon's office called today to schedule! I set a date, then rethought logistics, called and changed it. lol. My date is August 29. I could have done it a lot sooner, but we are going on a long camping trip in early august. I didn't want to deal with being post-op *or* following a pre-op diet during that....I have five kids, the thing is already like planning a military operation...so I will start my two week pre-op diet a couple of days after we get home, and surgery two weeks later. Woohoo!!!
I have a question about recovery. What will I feel like, activity-wise, the first few days? Will I be able to be alone with my kids, take care of basic things? It will be difficult for my husband to get off so soon after taking vacation time, but maybe I can have my mom come and stay if it is necessary. I don't have babies to lift or anything like that. But I would need to be able to get around and make sandwiches and break up arguments over who's Wii turn it is, that sort of thing, lol.

Your hospital will encourage you to walk asap. I was very dizzy for 3 days after. You will want someone with you for a few days I would think. You never know what could happen to need immediate attention.
Congrats on the start line date. it's great to hear. You will not regret the journey. Be brave, and you will be rewarded. Be smart, and it will be easy. Be diligent, and you will be fit and healthy again. You will change the trajectory of your life.
I was pretty wiped out the first few days home. I suppose I would have survived without any help, but glad my hubby was able to be there. I'd say you'd probably be ok if the kids will cooperate and can fend for themselves when you need to be napping.

As long as your surgery is laparoscopic, you should be ok. You will definitely be sore and tired, and won't be able to physcially break up any fights, LOL, but should be fine for basic things like fixing lunch, etc.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
If your mom is willing to help out for a few days, I would take her up on it. You can't predict how you will feel those first few days and it's better to have help available than not. Congrats on your surgery date and have a wonderful vacation!
