This is harder than I thought it would be
I thought I was prepared. I've been reading on this forum for months, researching on the Internet, reading books, etc. so I knew it was going to be hard, but I feel pretty horrid. I had surgery on Monday so this is day 4.
I'm so thirsty. The 2 oz. every fifteen minutes is killing me. I am sad that I'll never be able to take a big drink of water again.
I came home with a port and it's draining really slowly. And it's yucky.
I have this sharp pain behind my pubic area. Could it be constipation? I just drank some miralax.
I think I'm kind of feeling sorry for myself. I mostly just need encouragement that it's going to get better!
On the good side, I'm down 4 pounds from my surgery day and 12 pounds from starting the liquid diet a week ago.
I can drink more almost 3 weeks out than immediately post op, everyday that gets better.
The pain will pass.
This is going to be fine. You will be fine! I felt sad right after surgery too, and have intermittently since, there's a lot of hormones going on and feeling gross.
4 pounds is great...keep it moving!

I had the worst case of buyers remorse. Trust me, it will get better as the days go by. I would call the nurse about the pain you're having. Your water intake will increase as well. Congratulations on your weight loss. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

It is harder than we think - and usually it's hard in area where we are unprepared.
You will be able to drink normally in a few more weeks, months. It is normal to feel blah or weepy and cranky this early out.
By week three you will feel more human and by week 6 you will be raring to go. 6 months from now it is almost guarenteed you will be posting about your awesome progress, how happy and healthy and skinny you are feeling!
Hang in there - these are tough moments while you adjust, but it is worth it!
It will get better. If pain persists, call in tomorrow morning (FRI) do not wait for weekend emergency.
Everything else will get better. But enjoy getting full with eating less. I also found the SF popcicles - great 2 oz of fluid, but really reduces thirst and it takes time to eat it so you don't have to concentrate so hard on sipping.

You will be able to take bigger drinks of water - it might take 2 months, but it won't be tiny sips forever! I was soooo afraid of that too! Now, you won't be chugging a 20 oz. soda again, but it'll all work out ok.
Drains are yucky!
Pains this early are likely gas they pump into your abdomen during surgery. A bit of miralax once in awhile is ok.
I felt nearly the exact same way early on, you are definitely not alone. It really does get better!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I called my doctor about the pain and he said that "milking" the drain causes suction on your internal organs. No wonder it hurt so bad. I was only doing what the nurses told me to do. No more of that.
And yes, I just tried some SF Popsicles and they really quenched my thirst.
you guys are the best!
You are doing awesome. Drinking gets so much easier and eventually normal. You will be amazed. You did such wise prep work you just get through this part and look back and it will be hard to remember this. Teaspoons of puréed food will seem so crazy. But I think your feelings are pretty universal. Sip and walk as much as you can but also rest. Rest is needed. Keep up the excellent hard work. You are doing great!
