ventral hernia

I'm recovering from hernia surgery. I think losing weight made the hernia obvious and it was probably hidden by fat for years. I asked if I could wait to repair it and combine it with a tummy tuck down the road....but the surgeon was adamant that it's medical and shouldn't wait. Just wondering if this happened to anyone else? I'm feeling a little down because of the amount of pain and also my weight loss has slowed down. ????

I was waiting for surgical repair using the same logic you mention.  Then, my small bowel got trapped in the hernia resulting in emergency bowel obstruction surgery.  Waiting was a gamble.  I lost. You won.

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry that happened to you.  That's awful, and I hope you were able to have a full recovery. Thank you for sharing and putting a face on the negative possibilities.

So sorry this is happening, Lisa. I am sending you good vibes for quick healing. Maybe some new clothes will help put a sparkle back in your step!? I'm literally bringing you 5 or 6 huge bags. Get your closet ready, girl!

I'm actually having hernia repair surgery Jun 7th. When my surgeon did my RNY in April 2015, he repaired a hiatal hernia and another one, but left one until I lost my weight. I've lost 150 lbs and slowly started noticing it. Now that I'm down where I need to be, its very obvious. I had laparoscopic RNY but he'll do an open repair. He thinks its fat popping through the hernia, luckily not intestine. I'm hoping for not too much pain. I'll be glad when its fixed though.

Thanks for sharing.  Congrats on your weight loss.  Good luck on your surgery. Open sounds scary - what's the recovery estimate for that?

The surgeon said 2 weeks. I'm not worried. I had a hysterectomy when I was in my mid-20s and it wasn't a huge deal. He said the incision will be a couple inches across.
