This is a great idea, thanks! Bonus is that my husband likes jerky too, and is a good portable snack.

You don't want to get sick in Haiti. I still have problems getting protein bars down sometimes. They can be pretty hearty.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I hope you arrive home safely. My condolences to your son and your family. Thank God he has you to shepherd him into adulthood. I lost a parent early on in life. I have never recovered.

I'll be in the same "boat" as you (so to speak) as I'm going on a cruise next month to the Bahamas.  I don't know how airlines work it or the cruise-lines for that matter for bringing protein mix with you.  I know going to Mexico you don't want to drink the water or ice, but what about the Bahamas and cruise ships?  I don't want to ask any of the ladies who I'm going with because none of them know I've had surgery - it's a surprise for them!!   I'm sure I can find plenty of protein to eat while on the cruise, but just want to be on the safe side.  I'm used to having my protein drink in the morning for breakfast...  I'll be 18 months out then.

The water on cruise ships is potable (drinkable), but is full of salt because they desalinate the ocean water. My friend who cruises regularly brings her own bottled water with her (cases of it in suitcases) and so I would think bringing along your protein shakes would not be an issue.

I brought individual packets of protein powder on plane and cruise along with empty shaker bottle. I used water from ship - no problem.  You can buy bottled water on board too. You may also bring indiv packets of nuts, protein bars, etc esp if you're off ship. On the ship, you'll have no problem finding protein to eat.
