Mini gastric bypass, pregnancy and prenatal vitamins

Since the main reason to have my MGB was to reverse my PCOS and achieve a healthy pregnancy my doctor told me it would be OK to start trying for pregnancy 3 months after my operation provided that I do a full blood check for vitamins and minirals before trying for pregnancy. He also said to switch from Bariatric multivitamins to prenatal multivitamins. Now I had few question :-

1- the prenatal vitamins are designed for women who have normal absorption and eat a balanced diet. I worry that during pregnancy prenatal vitamins won't be enough for someone who had MGB. Would it be enough only to take the prenatal vitamins or should I  either up the dose or taking a combination of prenatal and Bariatric vitamins or both?!

2- prenatal vitamins are designed to be absorbed in a normal gut system, do you think the mechanism of absorption will differ with a someone who had MGB?

my pre-op BMI was 33. Height 153cm, weight 77kg. Current weight is 68kg

In your case prenatal vitamins will be fine.  There is nothing magic about bariatric vitamins.  Many of us just take an over the counter multivitamin like Centrum.  The important thing is to get your labs done and adjust any vitamins if needed based on your labs.

What White Dove said.

In my experience, prenatal are big pills. Breaking them in half may be good idea. Adding more calcium and magnesium probably would be advised. Always check with your doc.

I think my doctor  takes into consideration the starting weight. I know another patient of his had to wait at least 9 months before trying for pregnancy.  I don't have a lot to lose to start with and will probably lose all my excess weight by 3-4 months. Plus he did say it really depends on the compliance of the patient in terms of taking their multivitamins.
