I need advice
Thank you so much ! Yes so do not try Wendy's chili for a very long time... If ever lol. My Drs program was clear days1-3 with the exception of protein shakes from day 1. Days 4-7 full liquid and 7-17 Pureed . Then 5 days of soft . It's crazy how different every office is BUT I will err on the side of caution before proceeding and do 1 thing at a time .

I more than anybody on this site preaches Wendy's Chili. But if you are only 9 days out you are WAY to early to go that route. Some people have a hard time with beef. Some may never be able to go back to it. The proteins you are most safe with (for the first few months) are; protein shakes (whey protein isolate), tuna, fish (baked or broiled), chicken, turkey, milk, yogurt, beans, peas. You may want to avoid beef and pork (both can be hard to digest) for about 6 months. At that time, have a small amount (at home)...Say to your pouch, "OK pouch, here is something new...Will you let me know if you like it or not"?? So you give the pouch a small amount of the new food and wait...5-10 minutes. See what the pouch says. He or she will let you know how they feel about it. It is a trial and error thing. Again, adding anything new to the diet, do it at home...In small amounts. Beef has turned against you for the time being...But in 6-12 months you may be fine with it. Or, it may never sit well with your pouch. For me, things like cream soups (with a lot of butter) and pork just don't sit well. I don't go there. Others are fine...Many people have problems with things like beef, sugar, dry chicken, moist chicken, soft serve ice cream, pork, deer, fat, oils, milk (lactose), fried foods. It will be trial and error for the next year. Just my thoughts...Brian
Nurse is idiot. 10 days post-op - poached flounder is what you can tolerate, soft eggs, cottage cheese. Plus this is the time to reset your taste buds to real food, not fast food. Nurse should be jailed - there is no reason a 9 day post-op person should be suggested to eat Wendy's chilli. Do not listen to anything she says about food to eat.
You can show her this email and refer her to this booklet. I found it on line from an Army WLS program. It has a lot of good basic info.

Thank you

I was pretty direct. Didn't mean to be rude, but IMHO that was bad advice.
I approached post-op eating very much like Cabin111 suggests - add small amount of something new, wait and see if it causes a problem. I tried to retrain taste buds to more wholesome, less processed food. I still cannot eat grilled chicken easlily - I can boil it or bake it in spag sauce so it stays moist and it is better. I am about 1.5 years out.
Good luck on your journey.

Hey no problem . I like direct. I'm pretty direct myself and was quite upset about her advice after my bathroom experience so early out. I felt like a sheep led to slaughter .... Well not that extreme but I felt she led me far astray and I trusted her because she only works with bariatric patients but I'll no longer take her advice . I appreciate the feedback

I am lucky that my surgeon's NUIT and office staff are experienced and our Support Group Meetings are good. My NUIT does not pull punches. Your nurse may be giving you conventional dieting advice, which is out the window for us WLSers.
