It's been 11 years and still at goal.

Thanks, I started at 283.5 back in 2004, had surgery in April of 2005 and made my goal of 138 by 2007 and have stayed there ever since.  It's not easy to maintain so learn new eating habits while you can, ones you can stick with for life.

Good Luck.

Such an inspiration!!!! I had my surgery on March 4 so I am a newbie. You look great and congrats on the long term success! What does a day menu look like for you?

My eating is not for someone new.  I have never eaten during the day, typically only a protein snack if anything (like greek yogurt or a protein bar), I eat dinner as my main meal, typically protein is chicken in many creative ways with salad and organic vegetables, I have another snack in the evening typically protein forward with fruit nuts yogurt or occasionally homemade turkey jerky, protein or organic granola, depends what I am in the mood for. I usually have some small piece of chocolate everyday or chocolate protein bars, I love chocolate.  I don't deny myself.  I love unsweetened iced tea and lemons and I generally drink it all day long, it hydrates and keeps me from feeling hunger at all.  My calories are around 1100 on average, weekends are more as I get bagels as a treat.  I have reactive hypoglycemia so I have to always eat balanced meals or my blood sugar crashes too low.

Good luck and enjoy your new lease on life.

I don't eat many things, as I have reactive hypoglycemia so eating balanced meals is necessary or I dump and then crash.  I live on low fat organic chicken breast mainly, in any type of restaurant I always choose chicken.  I eat no red meat except a hamburger a couple times a year, and very little por****asionally I will eat pulled pork and a little bacon on a sandwich.  I eat mainly dinner as my one big meal a day, always balanced with protein, fiber, grains and fat to keep my blood sugar stable.  I eat typically two snacks a day, I eat the same exact things for years, it is just the way my diet evolved.  I love Greek yogurt and nuts, jerky, granola, steel cut oatmeal is another favorite, and chocolate protein bars.  I am going to Africa next week and won't be eating any native meat so protein and granola bars are going along with me.

Good Luck on your journey.

Congratulations on 11 years!  It's always helpful when vets come back to the group to encourage the new folks.  =)

edited for a slight hijack to Gary V.:  Why all the deleted posts lately?  You've been doing a lot of deleting which is of course your prerogative.  It certainly makes it hard to follow the thread sometimes though.  =(

I come back not because I feel welcome, because I certainly don't, but because it meant a lot to my initial success to see people like Yvonne McCarthy and others who lost weight and kept it off.  I don't live for wls, it's not become my business or my livelihood, it's become my way of life.  To eat until I feel satisfied and not full, to walk away from food and to enjoy what I can eat.  I want to show that with dedication you can have a normal life, even with reactive hypoglycemia which I control through a balanced diet.

Thanks for the support.

I hear  you on the reactive hypoglycemia.  And I also give you kudos for mentioning that your daily eating plan is not for newbies.  Mine isn't either - it is what works for me, Amy, at 7+ years out.  I would never recommend the way I eat to anyone right out of surgery.

It's so important that new folks follow instructions in the beginning and also that they realize that their diet immediately postop isn't a life sentence.

I think it's good that you come back to show what life can look like farther out.  We mostly see stories of regains (big and small) on the boards here.  Human nature I suppose to come back only if you have problems or are struggling.  It kind of skews the view of those unfamiliar with WLS as it makes success look much more elusive than it is in actuality.  When people who have lived this successfully for multiple years it gives others huge encouragement.

Many postops aren't here because they don't need to be; they are out living their new lives.  As we all hope to be  =)

It's true I tend to post now only when I am not feeling well and stuck in the house, I suffer from migraines that occur most often during my period.  My husband hides at work and only my dogs hang out with me because they are not subjected to my wrath.  lol. Although I hate being miserable I am glad its occurring now as we leave for our South African photographic safari next week.  So I need to get busy and pack and organize my house for the sitter and do a million errands which don't include sitting on my butt posting online.

I will always try to return and keep up my journal of my efforts to keep my weight off.  I recently found a new before pic I need to scan and post, I was shocked by it.  I forgot how big I really was.

Thanks again for supporting me.
